Lions too much for Go-Hawks

Playing like they’ve been there before, the No. 1 (2A) Clear Lake Lions (6-0, 3-0), defeated the seventh ranked (3A) Waverly-Shell Rock Go-Hawks by a convincing score of 27-6 in non-district play Friday night. 

Runners record best times of season at Algona Meet

Several Clear Lake runners recorded their best times of the season while competing at Algona Monday, Sept. 29.  The meet included 18-teams.  

Although they did not field a full squad, four freshman girls made quite a statement about things to come.  

Clear Lake girls drop three in tough week of volleyball

The Clear Lake volleyball team was shut out in three matches played last week.  The team will be looking to bounce back this week at Humboldt Thursday, Oct. 9, and at a Mason City tournament Saturday, Oct. 11.

Algona 3, CL 0

The Lions played at Algona Tuesday, Sept. 30.  The Bulldogs prevailed, 3-0, by scores of 25-14, 25-17, 25-11.

Cardinals top Bishop Garrigan in league volleyball action

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura volleyball team went 3-2 in action last week, moving their overall record to 17-9.

It was a tough battle for the Cardinals on Tuesday, Sept. 30, when the team hosted Bishop Garrigan.  GHV prevailed, topping the Golden Bears, 3-2, to finish the regular season fourth in the North Iowa Conference.

Cardinal ground game pulverizes Green Devils

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Cardinals’ (2-4, 1-2), run game steamrolled the Osage Green Devils (1-5, 1-3), on its way to a 42-6 win in Class 2A District 2 action. The Cardinals did what they do best as 441 rushing yards were tallied Friday night.

No deal: City Council sticks with plan to take down water tower

 A plan to turn a soon-to-be abandoned water tower into a home was doused Monday night, as the Clear Lake City Council approved a professional services agreement to oversee its demolition.

Sherman family forced to close Arrowhead

This will be final weekend for South Shore golf course

The Sherman family takes great pride in offering entertainment opportunities in Clear Lake.  However, one of their recreational hot spots will be closing this weekend.

Fall flavor

The 10th Annual Harvest Festival brought a large crowd to downtown Clear Lake Saturday to sample salsa, wine and other seasonal treats. Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tim Coffey said 80 vendors participated in this year’s event, 

Open Bible Church members travel to Tijuana to build house, relationships

 Members of the Open Bible Church in Clear Lake traveled to Tijuana, Mexico last month to build a house. In between the hammering and painting they crafted something much greater.

Child okay after second story fall

On Wednesday, Oct. 1, at about 3:56 p.m. the Clear Lake Police Department was called to 708 S. 8th St. on a report of an 18-month-old child falling through a window screen.  The child fell approximately 15-feet from the window.
