CL cheerleaders to perform

The community is invited to come support the Clear Lake Cheerleading Competition Squad as they prepare for the 2014 Iowa State Cheerleading Competition. The squad will perform their routine for the public on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 5:30 p.m. in the Clear Lake High School Gymnasium.

Clear Lake tops Hampton-Dumont in final game of regular season

The final game of Clear Lake’s regular volleyball season Tuesday, Oct. 21, was dubbed “pink out” to raise breast cancer awareness.  The Lions played lights out and topped Hampton-Dumont, 3-1.

Beverly Lechner

 Beverly Ann Lechner, 74, of Rockwell, Iowa, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Due to her wishes she will be cremated.

Marcele Kottman

Marcele Marjorie (Pals) Kottman, 92, formerly of Thornton, Iowa, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014, at the Rehabilitation Center, of Hampton, Iowa.

A funeral service was held Saturday, Oct. 25, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Thornton, with Rev. Rhea Evanson officiating.    Interment was at the Pleasantview Cemetery, Thornton.  Memorials may be given to the Marcele Kottman Memorial Fund.

Joseph Firsching

Joseph “Joe” Matthew Firsching, 89, of Mason City, passed away peacefully, Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, with his family by his side.

Three Lion runners earn all-conference honors

CL boys finish fourth in NCC race

Clear Lake placed two runners on the podium and finished fourth in the boys race at the North Central Conference Cross Country Meet held in Humboldt Tuesday, Oct. 14.  

Ryan Faught and Tanner Storbeck both ran strong races, finishing fifth and eighth respectively in the field of 55. Faught’s fifth place finish was in 18:06 and Storbeck ran an 18:20.

“Both Ryan and Tanner have been such great leaders, this honor is much deserved,” said Coach Nick DiMarco.  

Crowd lifts CL girls to new level

The Clear Lake volleyball team appears to be stepping up its game as the post-season approaches.  The Lions readied themselves for Regional play on Monday with a busy week against tough competition.  The Lions open Class 3A Region 3 play against Forest City Monday, Oct. 27.  Play will begin at 7 p.m.

Big effort falls short, Cards fall to C-G-D, 29-13

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Cardinals (2-6, 1-4) took a tough loss Friday night at the hands of the Clarion-Goldfield/Dows Cowboys (6-2, 3-2), by a score of 13-29. In a game managed mostly by the Cardinals, the Cowboys’ momentum proved a force that was too much.

Cardinals dominate tournament

Garner-Hayfield/Ventura dominated its own tournament on Saturday.  The Cards defeated Central Springs 2-1 (21-11, 19-21, 15-9), Newman Catholic 2-0 (21-17, 21-17); Northwood-Kensett 2-0 (21-15, 21-19) and North Iowa (21-13, 21-12) on their way to the championship match.
