Humboldt defeats Clear Lake in NCC volleyball

Humboldt shut out Clear Lake last week in North Central Conference volleyball action. The Lions fell Thursday by scores of  25-18, 25-23, 25-17.

Cardinals out hustled, 55-21

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Cardinals (2-5, 1-3), were brought to their knees Friday night by the Estherville  Lincoln Central Midgets (3-4, 2-3) in a 55-21 decision. 

Lion harriers place 3rd at Dick Bell Invitational

Clear Lake harriers were at Eagle Grove Tuesday, Oct. 7, to compete at the Dick Bell Invitational.  The Lion boys captured third place among nine teams, while the girls did not field a full team.

Gilbert finished first in the boys team competition, followed by Algona, Clear Lake and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura.  Fifty-seven runners participated in the varsity race.

GHV team rests injured runners at Eagle Grove

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura cross country team wasn’t quite up to their usual performance at the Eagle Grove Meet held on Tuesday, Oct. 7.  Due to injuries, a few of the top runners were given a rest.

“The boys were running at less than 100 percent. We rested a few guys who have been banged up and battling injuries over the past couple of weeks,” said Coach Eric Jolivette.  “The goal now is to get the guys healthy and back into racing shape.  I was very proud of the guys who stepped up to fill those shoes.”

It’s business as usual at the Clear Lake Police Department.  And that’s saying something.

North Shore Drive traffic re-routed

The City of Clear Lake has announced the North Shore Drive Street Reconstruction Project is now underway from 7th Avenue North to Buddy Holly Place, including both intersections.

Traffic to the west of 7th Avenue will be re-routed onto Beach Drive and 7th Avenue.  

Southbound Traffic on Buddy Holly Place will take 7th Avenue North around the project area. 

High speed chase starts at I-35

Four females were taken into custody after a high speed chase that began early Monday morning.

Authorities say the females were caught shoplifting at Walmart in Mason City at 4:50 a.m. and fled in a vehicle toward I-35. Clear Lake Police stopped the vehicle on Highway 122 at 5:02 a.m. and the females allegedly fled again.  The pursuit continued to Hardin County, where the vehicle was again stopped in the southbound lanes of I-35 near mile markers 144-147. The

 females then allegedly fled on foot but were apprehended by police.

Employee accused of stealing more than 30K from pharmacy

A former employee of Clear Lake Pharmacy has been accused of taking in excess of $30,000 from the business.
