Open Bible Church members travel to Tijuana to build house, relationships
Members of the Open Bible Church in Clear Lake traveled to Tijuana, Mexico last month to build a house. In between the hammering and painting they crafted something much greater.
“It’s about building relationships, not houses,” explained A.J. Abplanalp, one of nine church members who made the trip. Abplanalp was making his second mission trip to Tijuana. It was his wife, Deb’s, first trip. “Having Deb experience what I experienced last year, of the living conditions immediately south of our southern border, was
important. We built a home that we see as a one car garage, but to them is expediently better than the dirt floors, fruit crates, plywood and plastic tarps used for shelter.”
Gary Jochimsen and Ron Rosenbaum were also making their first mission trip to Tijuana and each found it life changing.
“The biggest surprise I had was how much you fall in love with the people,” said Gary. Ron called it “a great experience.”
Pastor Will Hunsaker and his wife, Joyce, have each made multiple trips to the area and encourage members of their church to do the same.
