G-H/V awards diplomas to first class

 

Garner-Hayfield/Ventura school officials awarded the first diplomas bearing the name of the shared school districts to members of the Class of 2013 on Sunday.

The following scholarships and awards were presented to seniors at the Senior Awards Day program held on Thursday, May 9.

City readies plans for next water tower project

 

A public hearing will be held July 1 to discuss the city’s next water tower project.

A 1 million gallon elevated water tower is proposed to replace a 250,000 gallon tank in the Four Winds area on the northwest side of Clear Lake.  The new water tower, estimated to cost $1.95 million, will be 

constructed just a few hundred yards from the existing tower.  After the smaller tower is removed that land, measuring about one-quarter acre, will be sold.

Piscopo named new legal counsel for Sanitary District

 

The Clear Lake Sanitary District has announced that Richard S. Piscopo has been retained as its new legal counsel. Piscopo will provide legal opinions and advice on Federal, State and Municipal matters as they pertain to the operations of the Clear Lake facility. 

Waterfowl feeding law goes into effect

 

The Clear Lake City Council passed a new ordinance prohibiting the feeding of waterfowl within 300-feet of any City owned and maintained recreation area during its regular meeting Monday night, May 20.  The third reading of the ordinance was waived, putting the measure into effect with the publication of a notice appearing in this week’s Mirror-Reporter (page 18).

The new law encompasses City Beach and North Lakeview Drive, between Main Avenue and 4th Avenue N., typically known as the area of the Seawall and North Lakeview Drive walkway. 

LAKE LEVEL

 

The lake level is still on the rise.  The lake rose 1.92” to its new reading of -6.48”.  Last year at this time 

the lake measured -8.4” below the weir.

Gloria Goerish

 

Gloria Dean Goerish, 73, Clear Lake, died Sunday, May 5, 2013, at her home.

A funeral mass for Gloria was held Friday, May 10, 2013 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake.  Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

  The family of Gloria would like to request that those wishing to give a memorial in her memory may consider giving them to the Trigeminal Neuralgia Association, 2801 S.W. Archer Rd., Gainesville, FL  32608. 

Charles McManigal

 

Charles W. McManigal (“C.W.”), age 73, long-time Mason City attorney, died peacefully and with dignity at his home following a lengthy illness on May, 4, 2013.  His devoted wife, Nancy, was at his side, as well as family.  A Celebration of Life was held on Friday, May, 10, 2013 at the Historic Park Inn Hotel, Mason City.  

Carol Korth

 

Carol J.  (Schulz) Korth, 60, of Ventura, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 11, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 15, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ventura with the Rev. Dr. Brian Saunders and the Rev. Dr. Byron Northwick officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.  Burial will be in the Ventura Cemetery.  

The Carol Korth Memorial Fund has been established for those wishing to honor her memory.  

Dorothy Anderson

 

Dorothy D. (Greimann) Anderson, 92, of Ventura died Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Faith Lutheran Church in Miller with Rose Visser, lay pastor, officiating.  Burial was in Ellington Prairie Cemetery.

Richard Lashier

 

Richard R. Lashier, 90, 202 N. Lakeview Dr., Clear Lake, died Monday,  May 6, 2013 at his home.  A Celebration of Life was held Friday, May 10, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with Rev. Dean Hess officiating.
