Diercks captures State title; Nosbisch reaches finals

 

Chandler Diercks said he was determined to grin and bear it.  And when it was over, the Clear Lake sophomore was grinning from ear to ear.  He had won the Class 3A long jump at the State Track Meet.

G-H/V boys have strong showing at State

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boy’s track team made a strong showing at the State Track Meet in Des Moines last weekend. 

On Friday, the 4x100 meter relay of Adam Monson, Brad Nedved, Seth Williams and Alex Van Gerpen finished in 21st place in the final season for three of the runners. 

First win on home field for G-H/V girls

 

It was an exciting night for the Garner-Hayfied/Ventura girls soccer team, as they picked up their first varsity win in school history on Penneke Field.

The team topped Humboldt, 3-2, at home on Thursday, May 16.

“I could not be prouder of these girls,” said Coach Josh Banse.  “Our defense played the best game of the year, only allowing four shots on goal all night.  We are starting to make a lot of good decisions and things are starting to happen.”

Lions win opening round in Class 2A Regionals

 

 

The Clear Lake boys soccer team won its opening round Class 2A Regional match Monday night, setting up a second round match with Hudson tonight (Wednesday, May 22) at Hudson starting at 5 p.m.

The Lions were 2-1 winners over Iowa Falls-Alden in their post-season opener.

Lions drop Sub-State tennis match to Spencer

 

The Clear Lake boys tennis team played Spencer in Sub-State tennis at Fort Dodge on Saturday, May 18.  Spencer won a hard fought match by the score of 5-3.  

The Lions split wins in individual play, with Sam Jones, Paul Raner and JJ Theobald each getting victories.

The match went to Spencer when they won two doubles matches.  Sam Jones and Luke Schiller were leading their doubles match 6-0, 4-2 when play was stopped.  

CL girls soccer team tops IF-A and G-H/V

 

 

 

The Clear Lake girls soccer team closed out the regular season with a 10-0 win over Iowa Falls-Alden Friday, May 17.  The victory improved the Lions’ record to a program-record best 9-3.

The match was halted with 13:03 remaining when CL senior Abby Woiwod scored with an assist from freshman Becca Bredlow.

G-H/V girls place fourth at Regional Golf Meet

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls golf team wrapped up the season with a fourth place finish out of eight teams at the Regional Golf Meet.  Kuemper Catholic won the meet with 383 points, followed by Hampton-Dumont with 401, Algona with a 425 and G-H/V with 432.

Clear Lake girls tennis team places third at Regionals

 

The Clear Lake girls tennis team earned a hard-fought third place finish in Regional play Thursday, May 16, at Decorah.  The top two girls and team from a bracket of 16 advanced to the State tournament.  The Lions doubles team of Kaitlyn Pitzen and Taylor Julsen battled to a third place finish, meaning they would play at State if any of the top two teams are unable to compete at State.

The Lions had two players competing in singles play at the Regional meet and both drew a seeded opponent. 

LAKE LEVEL

 

More rain caused an increase in the lake level of 2.76.”  The lake is now -3.72” below the weir.

  This is a far cry from  -31.44” which it was when the lake froze over on Dec. 7, 2012.

 

Graduation Day

 

One hundred twenty-four seniors received their diplomas from Clear Lake High School during commencement ceremonies held Sunday afternoon.
