Fishing was not only fun, but profitable, for an Oelwein, Iowa father and son on Sunday.  Steve M. Ralston and his son, Steve C., reeled in a tagged walleye worth $1,000.

Waverly educator tabbed for Clear Lake Middle School principal position

 

Steve Kwikkel, of Waverly, Iowa has accepted the position of Clear Lake Middle School Principal for the 2013-2014 school year, according to Clear Lake Superintendent Anita Micich.  Kwikkel was chosen from a pool of five final candidates for the position.  

The Clear Lake Board of Education will receive the recommendation to hire Kwikkel at a special session of the Board on Monday, June 10, at 5:15 p.m.

Couple seeks city funding for pet shelter

 

A Clear Lake couple is asking the City of Clear Lake to help fund a no-kill animal shelter.

CL Boys fall to Hudson in Sub-State action

 

Third-ranked (Class 2A) Hudson ended the season for the Clear Lake boys in Sub-State soccer action Wednesday, May 22.  Hudson, playing on its home field, defeated the Lions 2-1 in the Sub-State semi-final.

Lions move into baseball rankings

 

Four wins during the last week, including an impressive 12-2 victory over perennial Class 1A power Newman Catholic, vaulted the Clear Lake baseball team into the Class 3A rankings this week.  The 6-1 Lions debuted on the list, released Monday, at number three.  Sioux City Heelan sits in the number one spot, followed by Benton Community.

Girls end season with a school best record of 10-4

The Clear Lake girls soccer team was eliminated from post-season in play in the Regional semi-final played Friday in Denver.   The Lions ended their record-setting season with a school best record of 10-4.  The team also set a record by allowing just 15 goals to be scored against them during the season.

Clear Lake softball team enjoys an upswing

The Clear Lake softball team enjoyed an upswing in the program last week.  The Lions battled to a tie with Hampton-Dumont, then posted wins over Waukon and Belmond-Klemme before losing to Charles City in a Saturday tournament.  The Lions are now 2-3-1 overall.

G-H/V softball team drops two

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura softball team competed in a tournament at Lake Mills on Saturday, June 1.   

Central Springs 12, G-H/V 1

The Cardinals opened the Lake Mills tournament by facing Central Springs.  The Panthers rolled to a 12-1 victory.

G-H/V scored its lone run in the sixth inning when Grace Tusha knocked her sister, Maddie Tusha, in for the run.

Cardinals pick up a win and two losses in baseball action

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team picked up a win and a loss at the Lake Mills Tournament held on Saturday, June 1, and dropped a regular season game to Lake Mills on Monday.

It was a tight game for the Cardinals when they faced St. Ansgar at the Lake Mills Tournament.
