Richard Lashier
Richard R. Lashier, 90, 202 N. Lakeview Dr., Clear Lake, died Monday, May 6, 2013 at his home. A Celebration of Life was held Friday, May 10, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with Rev. Dean Hess officiating.
Richard Roe Lashier was born Nov. 21, 1922 in Early, Iowa, to Roe and Meda (Shull) Lashier. He attended and graduated from Early High School. His love for athletics began in junior high and continued through high school and college at Buena Vista in Storm Lake, Iowa. He was captain of both his college football and basketball teams in his final year. He met Arlene, his wife of 69 years, at Buena Vista and they were married June 4, 1944. The union was blessed with four children; daughter, Jan and Jim Baller; son, Jack and Kathy Lashier; daughter, Sue and Cal Kolling; and son, Bob and Anne Lashier.
He began his career as a high school teacher and coach at Rembrandt, Iowa, and also began work on his Master’s Degree at the University of Wisconsin during the summers. He also earned an Administrative Specialist Degree at Drake University. During 13 years at Lytton, Iowa, he served as teacher, coach, principal, and superintendent. In 1958 he became superintendent of schools at Jefferson, Iowa and served nine years there. The last 18 years of his career he was superintendent at Clear Lake. He retired in 1985.
He served on many professional, civic and church committees through the years. He especially enjoyed being a member of the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s Board of Control for 10 years. He was a highly respected athletic official and officiated at numerous State Tournaments. He had a lifelong passion for playing golf and enjoyed traveling with friends and family. He especially loved Clear Lake and its many activities.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene, his four children, nine grandsons and one granddaughter, 19 great-grandchildren, his sister, Eloise, and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Clear Lake Community School Foundation or the Iowa Hall of Pride and sent to the family at 202 N. Lakeview Dr., Clear Lake, IA 50428.
