Unsworth will not seek re-election

 

Terry Unsworth, past Clear Lake City Councilman representing Ward Two and currently one of two At Large members, has announced his intent to not seek re-election.

Council approves purchase of two new police cars

 

The Clear Lake City Council met on Monday night, Aug. 19, where they approved the purchase of two new police squad cars.

Under the recommendation of Chief Greg Peterson, the city bought two 2014 Chevy Caprice Classics.  

The vehicles will replace two 2008 Ford Crown Victoria vehicles.  Peterson noted at a meeting held on Aug. 5, 

Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce announces Ignite Campaign co-chairmen

 

The Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce has announced that Casey and Hunter Callanan and Mark and Kristin Ebeling have agreed to co-chair the “IGNITE Clear Lake Campaign.”  The community-wide project is in the initial stages of raising money to secure the annual fireworks display, which is free for all to view each year.

Marian E. Hankenson

 

Marian Elizabeth Hankenson, 94, Clear Lake, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013 at the Manly Care and Rehabilitation Center, Manly, Iowa.  

     A Graveside Service was held Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013 at the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake, with Rev. Keith Scott officiating.  

Joseph H. Williamson

 

Joseph Henry “Joe” Williamson, 60, of 3253 Pinnacle Ct., Mason City, formerly Madison, Wis., died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013 at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City.

Joe Williamson’s life was a miracle.

Elizabeth Klassen , Craig Klassen

 

Elizabeth A. “Betty” Klassen, 78, of 17 Marflow St., Ventura, died Thursday Aug. 8, 2013 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Craig Joseph Klassen, 50, of Phoenix, Ariz., son of Elizabeth Klassen, died two hours later on Aug. 8, 2013 in Phoenix.

A memorial mass for Elizabeth Klassen and her son, Craig Klassen, was held on Monday, Aug. 12, 2013 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with Rev. John Gossman and Rev. Ken Glaser officiating.  Inurnment will be at a later time in Clear Lake Cemetery.

James K. Ebling

 

James (Jim) K. Ebling, 65, of Clear Lake, passed away in his home Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.

Per Jim’s wishes, cremation services will be conducted.

John M. Vorhes

 

John (Jack) McCormick Vorhes passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 5, 2013 at Edgewater.  A memorial service will be held Thursday, Aug. 15, at 2 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at Edgewater, 9225 Cascade 

Ave., West Des Moines, Iowa.  A private interment will be at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.

Boys land seven players on All-NCC teams

 

Clear Lake, champions of the North Central Conference, landed five players on the All-NCC First Team and had two more named to subsequent All-NCC teams.

Pitcher Jerry Kockler, outfielder Gavin Sheakley and catcher Rowdy Yates were unanimous selections at their positions.  In addition, infielder Luke Schiller and outfielder Mitch Keeran were also named to the First Team.

Brock Adams was a Second Team choice and Brandon Tofte was picked for the All-NCC Third Team.

Sheakly and Kockler play in All-Star Series

 

Gavin Sheakley and Jerry Kockler, from the State Champion Clear Lake baseball team, were chosen by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association to participate in the group’s All-Star Series played Aug. 8-11 at Valley High School in West Des Moines and Principal Park in Des Moines.
