Pride is running deep in Clear Lake baseball.  

The community and school district is, of course, proud of its State qualifying Lions.  And parents, well, that goes without saying.  But Clear Lake’s baseball team has a special groundswell of support.  A true brotherhood of the sport.

Police get their man

 

A Nora Springs woman and a Rochester, Minn. man were arrested Thursday morning, July 25, after a chase in Clear Lake. 

An officer with the North Central Iowa Narcotics Task Force spotted a vehicle with a fraudulent license plate at about 9:40 a.m. Thursday and notified Clear Lake Police, asking for assistance in making a traffic stop.

Bergvig to challenge School Board incumbents

A third candidate has entered the race for two Clear Lake School Board seats.

Chyrl Bergvig, a retired educator, filed nomination papers with the School District Administrative Office Tuesday, July 30.  The deadline for filing papers is 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1.

CLSD gets favorable bids for roof work

 

Favorable bids have allowed the Clear Lake School Board to stretch its Physical Plant and Equipment Levy dollars even further than hoped.

At its regular Board meeting last week, the group gave the go-ahead to Midwest Roofing for roof replacement and repair work at Clear Creek Elementary and the high school in the amount of $87,530.  The Board had 

budgeted $120,000 for the work.

In other business, the Board approved Middle School Terrazzo resurfacing in the estimated amount of $22,485.00.  

G-H/V softball team lands three on NIC All-Conference lists

 

Three members of the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura softball team received All-Conference honors in the North Iowa Conference.

Maddie Tusha, a junior, received First Team All-Conference recognition.  Tusha, who plays centerfield, had a batting average of .384.  She had 27 single base hits and two doubles.  She scored 15 runs for the Cardinals and never struck out.

Dale Dorseth

 

Dale Allen Dorseth, 60, 704 S. 13th St., Clear Lake, died Sunday, July 21 2013 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

    A Celebration of his Life will be held at Central Gardens, Clear Lake, with Dr. Reverend Rhoda Preston officiating.  According to his wishes, he has gifted his body to the Des Moines Osteopathic School.  Memorials may be given to the Dale Allen Dorseth Memorial Fund.

Josephine Ellefson

 

Josephine “Pip” N. Ellefson, 91, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.  A funeral service was held Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Msgr. Joseph J. Slepicka  officiating.  Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Hospice of North Iowa.

LAKE LEVEL

 

The lake level dropped slightly to its new reading of 

-0.36” below the weir.  Last year at this time the lake measured -17.64” below the weir.
