Boys land seven players on All-NCC teams

Clear Lake, champions of the North Central Conference, landed five players on the All-NCC First Team and had two more named to subsequent All-NCC teams.

Pitcher Jerry Kockler, outfielder Gavin Sheakley and catcher Rowdy Yates were unanimous selections at their positions.  In addition, infielder Luke Schiller and outfielder Mitch Keeran were also named to the First Team.

Brock Adams was a Second Team choice and Brandon Tofte was picked for the All-NCC Third Team.

Kockler, a senior, compiled a 7-1 record on the mound during NCC games.  He struck out 58 batters in 39 innings pitched and walked 12.  His earned run average was 1.62.

Sheakley had a .377 batting average during the 18-game NCC season with a slugging percentage of .426.  The senior recorded 23 hits and scored 25 runs for the Lions in conference games.  His hits included three doubles.  He collected four RBIs and had 11 stolen bases.

Yates, a sophomore, batted .306 this season.  He had 30 hits in 39 games played, good for 23 RBIs. His hits included three doubles.  The Lion catcher threw out seven of 21 runners trying to steal second, including five of 11 during NCC play.

Schiller, who typically played third for the Lions, had a .392 batting average in conference games.  The senior had 20 hits and scored 13 times for the Lions.  He had two stolen bases.

Keeran, a sophomore, had a .400 batting average in 18 conference games.  His 22 hits included four doubles and three home runs, helping him to a .636 slugging percentage with 23 RBIs.  

Adams had 20 hits and scored 20 runs in 18 conference games.  The sophomore’s batting average was .345.  His totals included 17 RBIs.

Tofte, a sophomore, played in 12 NCC games.  He recorded nine hits and collected eight RBIs and scored eight runs.  His batting average during the NCC season was .273, with a .303 slugging percentage.

“It is really nice to see both coaches and media from across the state recognize our players and what they have accomplished.  However, I’m sure the award they would all tell you means the most is the State Championship trophy they brought home as a team,” said Coach Seth Thompson.  

The Lions compiled a 38-3 record on their way to the Class 3A State title this season.
