Wanda J. McLaughlin

 

     Wanda J. McLaughlin, 58, of Hanlontown, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

     Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013 at Epiphany Parish - St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Neil Manternach and the Rev. Kenneth B. Gehling as Concelebrants.  Interment followed in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

     Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Wanda’s name in care of her family.

Donald Thompson

 

Donald O. Thompson, 86, of Clear Lake, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2013 at his South Shore home with his wife of 67 years, Barbara, son, John, and daughter-in-law, Colleen, at his side.  

A memorial service will be held on Monday, Aug. 12, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.  

Pastor Dean Hess will be officiating, joined by members of Don’s family, Pastors Matt Larson and Kally Elliott.  It will be a Celebration of Life and a witness to God’s glory.

Fern Zinser

 

     Fern Zinser, age 100, died at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, on Aug. 3, 2013.  She is with her Heavenly Father and all family members that have preceded her in death. Celebration of her life will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013 at the Evangelical Free Church, Clear Lake, Iowa with Pastor Randy Vaage and

Lions are State Champions!

 

Clear Lake’s 2013 baseball team has been known by several names this season-- Cardiac Kids,  Comeback Kids,  The Incredibles, North Central Conference Champions and District Champions.

Add one more to the list.

Toppin proves what it takes to be a Division I athlete

It takes dedication and hard work to compete as a Division I athlete, and no one knows more about those characteristics than Andrea Toppin.

Four G-H/V players earn spots on All-Conference teams

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team had four members earn All-Conference recognition in the North Iowa Conference.

Zach Buseman and Heath Hutcheson both were named First Team All-Conference, while Braden Meints was named to the Second Team and Nathan Hrubes received Honorable Mention recognition.

Buseman, a senior, finished the season with a .349 batting average.  He tied to lead the team with 20 RBI’s.  He collected a 5-3 record pitching.  He had a 1.59 ERA in almost 50 innings.

LAKE LEVEL

 

The lake level rose to its new reading of

 +0.72” above the weir, up 1.08” from last week.  Last year at this time the lake measured -20.52” below the weir.

City eyes improvements to public lakeshore areas

 

Clear Lake City Council members responded favorably to a variety of ideas presented for improvements along much-used North Lakeview Drive, the Sea Wall and City Beach areas.

Taking school registration in stride

 

There was nothing stressful about registering for school for this Clear Lake student.  She patiently waited as her mother went
