Margaret Jean Hansen, 91, formerly of Clear Lake, died Monday, Sept 2, 2013 at the Nora Springs Care Center, Nora Springs, Iowa.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, from 2 – 4 p.m., with a time of sharing memories at 3 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.  A private inurnment will be held at the Buffalo Township Cemetery, Titonka, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

GHV/WH captures two team titles; Toppin individual winner

 

The GHV/WH cross country teams proved to be forces to be reckoned with as  both teams brought home top honors from the Newman Catholic Meet on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

“I was very happy with the way both teams ran, their hard work during the summer showed,” said Coach Jeff Short.

The GHV/WH boys team captured first place in the 15-team field with 81 points.  Osage finished in second place, while Mason City, West Fork and Clear Lake took the other top five spots.

Clear Lake runners look good in season opener

Clear Lake cross country teams opened the season Tuesday, Sept. 3, competing in the Newman Invitational held on the Mercy Health Center-North Iowa west campus.

“It was an evaluative meet for our team.  Runners were able to see how they measured up to the competition this season,” said Lions Head Coach Nick DiMarco.  

GHV’s stout defense shuts down Osage

In a display of unrelenting defense and a high caliber run game, Garner-Hayfield/Ventura (2-0) walked away from Friday’s game against Osage (0-2) with yet another impressive win.

  In a 48-0 bout against the Green Devils, GHV scored at will, as 41 points were chalked up in the first half. 

Forest City falls to Clear Lake, 34-7

 

Clear Lake’s football program reached the 500 win mark as the 2013 Lions toppled Forest City on the road, 34-7, Friday night.

The game was actually much closer than the final score indicated.  

Cardinals dominate on the court

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura volleyball team has hit the court at full steam, knocking off West Hancock and Clarion-Goldfield last week.

LAKE LEVEL

 

Recent warm weather caused over 

a 2” drop in the lake level.  The lake now measures -2.28” below the weir.  Last year at this time the lake measured -38.52” below the weir.

CL volleyball team sweeps Eagle Grove

 

The Clear Lake varsity volleyball team swept Eagle Grove 3-0 in a match played Thursday, Sept. 5, in Eagle Grove.  The Lions prevailed, 25-17, 25-13, 25-14.  The victory puts the Lions at 3-3 in match play and 1-0 in the conference.

Coach Scott Swenson called the win a “total team effort.”

“The play of Carney Frahm, Sidney Borrill, Katie Hewitt, Sam Wilkinson and Marcie Dick was instrumental in making this a total team effort against Eagle Grove. The girls played with a lot of enthusiasm and vitality,” said Swenson.
