Ruby E. Bork

 Ruby Elaine Bork, 86, of Clear Lake, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2014 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake. She went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who she had loved and served her whole life, and was reunited with dearly loved family who had gone to heaven before her. A celebration of her life will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Clear Lake Open Bible Church, Clear Lake, with Pastor Will Hunsaker officiating.

Elwin D. Ebaugh

 Elwin David “Bud” Ebaugh, 93, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Heritage Care & Rehabilitation Center in Mason City. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 12, at 2:30 p.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour before the service.

Ethel J. Palmeter

 Ethel J. Palmeter, 95, of St. Augustine, Fla., formerly of Humboldt, Iowa, passed away May 18, 2014.  Funeral services were held on May 23, 2014 in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.  Graveside services were in the Clear Lake Cemetery at the Wrisberg family plot.

Wastewater discharged into lake

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources reported a contractor working on a road project at Ventura Monday struck a sewer force main, releasing a small, but unknown, amount of wastewater in to Clear Lake.

Godbersen-Smith Construction, of Ida Grove, was working on a road and culvert project on the Ventura grade when they struck a sewer force main, according to the DNR.   

The Clear Lake Sanitary District responded immediately and shut down the pump station that serves the Ventura sewer line.

NI Drug Task Force makes arrest sweep

 Thursday, June 5, the North Central Iowa Narcotics Task Force and the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office attempted to serve arrest warrants issued for several drug investigations conducted over the last few months by the North Central Iowa Narcotics Task Force.

Fire closes Lake restaurant temporarily

 A small electrical fire has closed the Anchor Inn, on South Shore Drive, temporarily. The Clear Lake Fire Department responded Thursday afternoon, June 5, to a fire at the local restaurant. Restaurant personnel reported they had been 

working with a company on electrical issues when the fire started in the ceiling of the kitchen.

Lions place fourth at State

 The Clear Lake boys golf team earned a fourth place finish at the Class 3A state tournament in Ames on Saturday.

The Lions shot a two-day total of 641. On the second day of competition the Lions bettered their first day score of 325 by nine strokes, finishing with a 316 on Saturday. 

Jones fourth at State

Clear Lake’s Sam Jones finished fourth in the Class 1A boys State Tennis Tournament played in Waterloo Friday and Saturday.

After a pair of opening day wins on Friday, Jones, who was undefeated and the 

number one seed in the tournament, dropped the semifinal round and third-place matches.
