CL girls golf team earns a trip to State

The Clear Lake girls golf team earned a trip to the State Golf Tournament by winning their Regional played at Three Elms in Independence Tuesday, May 27.  The Lions were three-stroke winners over Dyersville Beckman, which also qualified for State, 

355-358.  Independence and Camanche were distant finishers with 383 and 386 respectively.

Lion soccer team ready for State competition

It’s on to State for the Clear Lake boys soccer team! The road to State tested the Lions and they emerged victorious and confident in their quest to bring Clear Lake its first soccer title. Clear Lake last qualified for the State Tournament in 2010.

 State tournament play begins Thursday, June 5, at 12:15 p.m. against MOC Floyd Valley (11-5) on field #7 at Cownie Soccer complex in Des Moines. The Lions are seeded number three in Class 1A.

Deja vu start to the 2014 season for the Clear Lake baseball team

It was deja vu all over again for the Clear Lake baseball team. The Lions opened the 2014 season in the same way they started the 2013 campaign-- with a win at Charles City and a loss to Newman Catholic. The loss did nothing to stop the Lions from going on to win a State title last year and Coach Seth

Tough start to the season for the Cardinals

It was a rough start to the season for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team. The Cardinals opened the season with four losses before picking up a win.

Clear Lake softball drops first two games

Algona and Webster City handed the Clear Lake girls softball team losses in the first week of the 2014 season. This week the Lions play four games Monday through Thursday and participate in a tournament at Charles City Saturday. They will be home Monday and Tuesday, June 9 and 10, for local fans to cheer them on against St. Ed’s and Humboldt.

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura softball team opened the season against some tough teams and that showed in their 0-3 record.

CL girls soccer team ends regular season with a shut-out against IF-A

The Clear Lake girls soccer team finished the regular season with a shut-out win at Iowa Falls-Alden Thursday, May 29.
Iowa Falls played a heavy defensive game, which played right into the hands of the Lions. The Cadets kept a line of four defenders back and three mid-fielders back most of the game, hoping to keep the Lions away from the goal. 

Cardinals go 1-2 in recent soccer action

Webster City 1, GHV 0

The Cardinals lost in a 1-0 shootout against Webster City on Tuesday, May 20.  The game was a tough one, as GHV was missing four starters who were either competing in the State Track Meet or out with injuries, leaving the team with only two substitutions.

“Despite all those factors, we played a great match,” said Coach Eric Williams.  “The young men played their hearts out.”

Irene Ingebretson

Irene T. Ingebretson, formerly of Thornton, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Samaritan Bethany Home, Rochester, Minn.

     A funeral mass was held on Monday, June 2, 2014 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with Rev.  John Gossman officiating.  Interment was at the Richland Lutheran Cemetery, Thornton.  In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Opportunity Village, 1200 N. 9th St. W., Clear Lake, Iowa, 50428.

Gerald Dingman

 Gerald “Jerry” Jesse Dingman, 77, 1403 S. Lakeview Dr., Clear Lake, died Thursday, May 29, 2014 at his home.
     A gathering of family and friends was held on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel. A prayer service was first with Rev. Dean Hess officiating, followed by a Masonic service. An inurnment will be at Highland Memorial Garden, Des Moines, Iowa, at a later date. According to his wishes, his body has been cremated. Memorials may be given to the Shriners
