Chamber re-ignites fireworks campaign to push toward goal

 The Clear Lake Area Chamber announced that it is “re-IGNITING” the IGNITE Clear Lake campaign this summer to shore up its final support and close out the campaign to endow the fireworks for Clear Lake.
 The Clear Lake Area Chamber established an endowment account for the fireworks fund with the Cerro Gordo County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa.

P&R Board tables decision on veteran’s memorial

The Clear Lake Parks and Recreation Advisory Board has tabled a proposal to locate a veteran’s memorial at the Sea Wall.

Oweso Club celebrates 100 years of service

 A handful of remaining members celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Oweso Club Tuesday, July 1, in the Fellowship Room at Zion Lutheran Church. The group, which at one time had a dozen to 25 members but now has dwindled to about eight, is not officially disbanding, but it will no longer hold monthly meetings.

Nancy J. Miller

 Nancy Jane Miller, 85, of Independence, Iowa, died peacefully on June 18, 2014 at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence, with Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Interment was in St. John’s Cemetery.
Nancy was born on June 20, 1928 in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Oscar and Gertrude (Schebler) Petersen. She was a graduate of Clear Lake High School and 

Dixie A. Bast

 Dixie Ann Bast, 76, of Mason City, died Friday, June 20, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa.  Funeral services were held at on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating.  Interment took place in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the Dixie Bast memorial fund in care of the family.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com.

 Patricia S. Lomen, 87, of Clear Lake, died June 17, 2014 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake. A Celebration of Life service was held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Rev. Tom Dettmer, of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City, officiating. Inurnment will be at a later time in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Family suggests memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church Music Program. Lois E. Reynolds

 Lois E. Reynolds, of Chandler, Ariz., passed away peacefully on May 21, 2014 at the age of 89. Graveside services for Lois will be held at 12 p.m., July 1, 2014 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Lions move up to #2 in the Class 3A rankings

The Clear Lake Lions moved up to number two in the Class 3A rankings last week. The Lions, now 16-2, have the best fielding percentage and second best team ERA of all the teams in Class 3A.

Young softball team is working hard to correct fielding errors

The Clear Lake girls fell to 1-16 overall and 1-9 in the conference last week. Coach Megan Young said the young team is working hard to correct fielding errors which are giving their opponents too many opportunities.

Cardinals end week on an upswing; pick up two wins

The week may have started off a little shaky for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team, but it ended on an upswing, as the Cardinals collected two wins and moved their record to 4-13.

GHV hosted Algona on Tuesday, June 17, where the Bulldogs shut out the Cardinals, 14-0.
The Cards only managed four hits, compared to Algona’s 14.
