John Overgaard

 John E. Overgaard, 71, of Exline, Iowa, formerly of Ventura, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. As per John’s wishes he was cremated, followed by a time of sharing of memories and celebrating his life with family and friends on Sunday June 1, 2014 at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake. A private inurnment was held in Ventura Cemetery, Ventura. Family suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa.

Merle Peterson

 Merle Wayne Peterson, 72, of Hanlontown, Iowa, died Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City, surrounded by family. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Grace Lutheran Church in Hanlontown on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at 1 p.m., with Pastor Linda Johnson-Prestholt officiating. Visitation will be held at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, from 5 - 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 4, 2014. Interment will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Elmer Vierkant

 Elmer Harold Vierkant, 85, of El Cajon, Calif., died May 21, 2014. Elmer, son of Hazel and Harry B. Vierkant, loving husband of Mary Jo Vierkant, passed away at Lakeview Hospice Home in La Mesa, Calif., after a courageous fight with cancer.
He was born in Osage and raised in the Mason City and Rockwell, Iowa, area. He was the eighth of nine children. Elmer joined the

City Council approves sale of property to Opportunity Village

 The Clear Lake City Council approved the sale of city owned residential property Monday night to Opportunity Village.
 Opportunity Village will pay $40,000 for the lot at 1115 and the north half of 1119 S. 3rd St. The Village intends to build a single-story home on the 85 x 130-foot parcel. Four clients will reside in the single story home.
