    Clarine  K. “Claire” Olson, 66, of 213 Asbury Drive, Clear Lake died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011 in Leland, Iowa. 
    Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011 at the Winnebago Lutheran Church, Lake Mills, Iowa with the Rev. William Peters officiating.  Interment will be in Olena Mound Cemetery, Buffalo Center, Iowa.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake and then one hour before the service

Terrill Aydelotte

    Terrill “Terry” Aydelotte, 68, of Garner, Iowa died Friday, Oct. 21, 2011 at his home in Garner.
    Private family memorial services will be held at a later date.  Visitation was held Tuesday, Oct. 25 at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner.

Gary Anderson

    Gary M. Anderson, 74, of 20 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
    Memorial services were held Monday, Oct. 24, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Derik Yarian officiating.  Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Family suggests memorials to the Gary M. Anderson Memorial Fund.

    Robert F. Haugen, 86, of 1310 Village Road, Clear Lake, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
    Memorial services will be 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 31, at the Grace Lutheran Church, Hanlontown, Iowa with Pastor Linda Johnson Prestholt officiating.  Burial will be in Brush Point Cemetery, Hanlontown.  Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 30, from 3-6 p.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake and then one hour before the service on

    Donald “Donnie” Smith, 80, of Meservey, Iowa passed away Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 26 at the First Reformed Church in Meservey with the Rev. Rodney Meester presiding. Interment will be at Meservey Cemetery with full veteran’s honors by William J. Schmale Post #171 American Legion, Meservey.      The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura/West Hancock cross country program will be well represented at the State Cross Country meet to be held this weekend in Fort Dodge.

Hardwork pays off for Peterson

    Clear Lake’s Trudy Peterson has been gaining steam as the season has progressed.  Saturday the Clear Lake sophomore recorded her best time of the season, 15:58, and earned a trip to the State Cross Country Meet in Fort Dodge Saturday.  Peterson placed ninth overall in the Class 3A District meet at Spencer.

Vikings just short of victory

  For the second week in a row, the Ventura Vikings saw their chances for a victory slip away in the final minute of play.  With 1:15 remaining in Friday night’s match-up at Riceville the game was tied 40-40, but a final Wildcat TD with :09 remaining on the clock ended the game.  The loss closed the chapter on 67 years of Ventura football.

Lady Vikes top N-K in first district win

 
    It was an exciting night for Ventura volleyball, as the team picked up its first district win again Northwood-Kensett on Wednesday, Oct. 19, in Ventura. 
    The first set was not a strong effort by Ventura, but they were able to pull ahead and held on for a 25-20 victory.  The Lady Vikes jumped to a big lead in the second set, but allowed N-K back into the game, however, Ventura was able to hold on for the 25-22 win.  Missed serves plagued the Lady Vikes in the third set, but a never give up attitude sealed the win, 25-23.
