Wilma Hanson

    Wilma Madeline Clarissa (Helle) Hanson passed away at age 89, on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011 at Willow Pointe Assisted Living in Mason City, Iowa. 
    A Celebration of Life service was held Tuesday, Nov. 1, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran, Thornton, Iowa, with the Rev. Rhea Evanson officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Decorah knocks off #1 Lions

Decorah’s big and powerful football team sucked the life right out of the Clear Lake Lions football team Halloween night.  The Vikings upended the number one ranked (3A) Lions, 24-8.
    “They were too physical for us.  We just couldn’t get ‘r done,” said Lions Head Coach Fred Wieck.

Peterson competes in State Cross Country Meet

    Clear Lake’s Trudy Peterson competed in the Class 3A State Cross Country Meet Saturday, Oct. 29, in Fort Dodge.  In her first State appearance, the Clear Lake sophomore recorded her best time ever and placed 52nd.

Newman takes Ventura out of Regional competition

  A large Ventura crowd showed up at Newman on Tuesday night, Oct. 25, to cheer on the Lady Vikes in the second round of Regional competition.  Unfortunately, missed serves, hitting errors and miscommunications led to a 3-1 loss to the Knights.
    The Lady Vikes came out swinging in the first game and captured a 25-18 victory.

Algona ends Clear Lake’s volleyball season

    The Clear Lake girls volleyball team saw its season come to an end Monday, Oct. 24, in Algona.  The Bulldogs blanked the Lions, 3-0 in the Regional Tournament opening round. 
    “The girls finished the season with a tough Algona team who was very focused and determined,” said Coach Scott Swenson. 
    The highly regarded Algona squad took advantage of Lion mistakes to record the win, 25-7, 25-7, 25-14.

Ten CLHS students named to All-State choir, band

   Ten Clear Lake High School students have attained the highest individual honor available to high school musicians by being selected as members of the 2011 All-State Chorus and Band.

Two new members will join experience on City Council

    Four Clear Lake City Council Representatives will be elected Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Three on the ballot in Ventura

    Three Ventura City Council Representatives are unopposed in seeking re-election on Tuesday. 
    Darwin Avery and John Quintus say they were motivated to seek re-election to see projects such as the Main Street/West Lake Street street project get completed after several years in the planning.  They, along with Mike Thackery, also note they hope to make a difference and help the community grow and move forward through their service as Council members.
