Peterson competes in State Cross Country Meet
Clear Lake’s Trudy Peterson competed in the Class 3A State Cross Country Meet Saturday, Oct. 29, in Fort Dodge. In her first State appearance, the Clear Lake sophomore recorded her best time ever and placed 52nd.
“It was about 50 degrees with very little wind, which provided fast times,” said Clear Lake Coaches Jerry Morris and Lothar Meyer. “”It is hard
to prepare for the speed of a State Meet, since there are all good runners and teams there, but Trudy did a great job of running in the meet. I think it was hard not having any teammates there running with her, but hopefully that will change next year since we bring back Trudy with four of her teammates.”
One of Peterson’s goals was to get her best time, which she accomplished, but she also had hoped to place in the top 30. Her coaches say reaching that second goal will be good motivation for next year.
“It was a good experience for her and now she knows what expect at the State Meet, so it will be a good incentive for her next year.
Peterson’s parents and family members, along with some of her teammates were there to cheer her on.
Dubuque Wahlert captured the girls Class 3A title, followed by Davenport Assumption and Pella.
