Algona ends Clear Lake’s volleyball season
The Clear Lake girls volleyball team saw its season come to an end Monday, Oct. 24, in Algona. The Bulldogs blanked the Lions, 3-0 in the Regional Tournament opening round.
“The girls finished the season with a tough Algona team who was very focused and determined,” said Coach Scott Swenson.
The highly regarded Algona squad took advantage of Lion mistakes to record the win, 25-7, 25-7, 25-14.
“The girls just need to eliminate their own mistakes and then they will be able to execute and be successful,” added the coach. “The girls have laid down a foundation for long-term improvement and if they continue to work on their game in the off season, success can be theirs.”
Team leaders in the match against Algona included Carly Ouverson with 13 assists and seven digs. Kaitlyn Pitzen had 10 kills and Jenna Peterson had 12 digs and was 5/5 at the service line. Taylor Julsen and Jeanette Davis combined for eight kills in the match, while Brianna Haugen and Anne Tesar both had 2 two kills apiece. Megan Kopriva and Emily Willms jointly had 10 digs. Ryan Pierce, in her final varsity match, had six digs and was 4/4 serving.
“It has been a very fun year with the girls and I have seen a lot of positive gains throughout the season,” added Coach Swenson. “The freshmen and JV squads were both very successful, so the future for Clear Lake volleyball looks very promising.”
