First win on home field for G-H/V girls

It was an exciting night for the Garner-Hayfied/Ventura girls soccer team, as they picked up their first varsity win in school history on Penneke Field.

The team topped Humboldt, 3-2, at home on Thursday, May 16.

“I could not be prouder of these girls,” said Coach Josh Banse.  “Our defense played the best game of the year, only allowing four shots on goal all night.  We are starting to make a lot of good decisions and things are starting to happen.”

Mackenzie Haag scored the first goal for the Cardinals at 1:30 into the second half.  Emily Spilman gave her the assist.  Haag returned the favor with an assist to Spilman for the second G-H/V goal of the game.  Bri Bier scored the final goal at the end of the second half with an assist by Danielle Nelson.

Goalie Sam Betz had two saves. Bier had six shots on goal, while Haag had four and Spilman had two.
