John “Jack” Irvin Moor, 74, of Clear Lake, Iowa died on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 at his home.  Online condolences may be left at www.fullertonfh.com. 

A funeral service was held on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013 at Fullerton Funeral Home, Mason City.  Rev. Bernie Colorado was 

the officiant from the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake.  Interment followed at the Rockwell Cemetery in Rockwell, Iowa.  

LAKE LEVEL

Rain last week caused a .36” increase in the lake level. The new level measured

 -8.16” below the weir.  Last year at this time the lake measured -29.76” below the weir.

Ardee M. Ahrendt

Ardee M. Ahrendt, 81 of Clear Lake, died on Oct. 16, 2013 at Concord Care Center in Garner, Iowa.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 at Galilean Lutheran Church, 4454 255th St., 

Hwy. 18 W., Clear Lake, with Rev. Scot McCluskey officiating.  Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the church.  Inurnment was held in Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake.  Family suggests memorials to Galilean Lutheran Church.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Hugi claims at-large Clear Lake City Council position

Gary Hugi won the at-large position on the Clear Lake City Council following the Regular Election held on Tuesday, Nov. 5.  Hugi topped fellow newcomer Peter Lagios with more than 82 percent of the vote.  

Tesar elected Mayor in Ventura

Ventura had a surprise following the Regular Election.  Art Tesar was elected Mayor of Ventura, after 69 votes were cast for him as a write-in candidate.

“We are very happy Art is going to take the reigns as Mayor, because he has a lot of experience,” said Else Taylor, 

Ventura City Clerk.  “It takes a couple of years to learn what is involved and expected of the mayor, but with Art’s experience he will just step right in.”

Area church continues efforts in Haiti

For the past three years after the devastating earthquake struck Haiti in 2010, Zion Lutheran Church’s global mission teams have worked to help rebuild a church in Carrefour, an area within the country’s capital of Port-au-Prince.  The Strait Gate church was totally leveled following the earthquake, much like many of the homes and other buildings in the area.  Worship services were being held in a tent with a generator and a few lightbulbs.

GHV bows out of playoffs in 34-13 loss

It was a tough way to end the season as the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Cardinals (7-4) were eliminated in the first round of playoffs by the Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Nighthawks (9-1), 34-13. Big plays made the difference for the Nighthawks as both teams managed over 300 yards of offense.

Each of the Nighthawk touchdowns came from a play of more than 20 yards, making it difficult
