Hugi claims at-large Clear Lake City Council position

Gary Hugi won the at-large position on the Clear Lake City Council following the Regular Election held on Tuesday, Nov. 5.  Hugi topped fellow newcomer Peter Lagios with more than 82 percent of the vote.  

Hugi defeated Lagios 852 to 179.

“I am looking forward to working with the present council, the mayor and the administration to provide stability to the city,” said Hugi.

Hugi will fill the at-large position held by Terry Unsworth, who decided not to seek re-election.

Incumbents Mayor Nelson Crabb and Councilman Tony Nelson ran unopposed.

Hugi is a retired construction worker.  He is a graduate of Mankato Technical, with a degree in Survey and Construction Practices.  He has served on various boards and committees and is currently a member of the City’s Planning and Zoning Commission.

“I will seek a positive perspective to represent all the citizens of Clear Lake with common sense and I will continue the moral, fiscal and future integrities set forth by our past city fathers,” said Hugi.

According to Cerro Gordo County Auditor Ken Kline, 1,046 votes were cast in Clear Lake, which is 17.7 percent of the 5,914 Clear Lake registered voters.
