Jean R. Larson

Jean R. Larson, of 4266 S. Shore Drive, Clear Lake, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 in the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit of North Iowa, Mason City.  Private family interment services were held Jan. 14 at Riverside Cemetery, Marshalltown, Iowa, where Jean attended school, married and raised her family.

It was a very productive week for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls basketball team, as they rolled over two North Iowa Conference opponents, bringing their record to 6-4 in conference play.

Lions crowns three champions at Clear Lake Invitational

The Clear Lake wrestling team placed second Saturday at the nine-team Clear Lake Invitational. Charles City won the tournament.

Three Lions were crowned champions: Brennen Doebel, Ryan Leisure and Andres Gonzalez.  Doebel was named the meet’s most outstanding wrestler by the nine coaches. 

Three Lions were also second place finishers. Ryan Faught, Blake Kelso and Connor Nosbisch wrestled well, but lost to state ranked wrestlers.

Four Cards take top honors at GT/RA Tournament

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura wrestling team had a tough outing at Nashua-Plainfield, but bounced back to claim second place at the Graettinger-Terril Tournament.

Firefighters respond to house fires

At approximately 3:15 a.m. Saturday morning the Clear Lake Police Department received a report of a fire in an upstairs bedroom at 405 S. 12th St.  

Icy conditions send vehicles into I-35 ditch

Icy conditions are being blamed for a driver losing control of his pickup truck on Interstate 35 Sunday, sending the truck and a large recreational vehicle into the ditch.

Candidates begin to emerge for District 2 Supervisor seat

The field of candidates seeking the District 2 Cerro Gordo County Supervisor seat being vacated by Robert Amosson has grown to four.  Three candidates, two Republicans and a Democrat, announced this week they have taken out nomination {jcomments on}papers.  They join previously announced Democratic candidate John Drury, of Swaledale.  Drury is the mayor of Swaledale.
