Jean R. Larson

Jean R. Larson, of 4266 S. Shore Drive, Clear Lake, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 in the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit of North Iowa, Mason City.  Private family interment services were held Jan. 14 at Riverside Cemetery, Marshalltown, Iowa, where Jean attended school, married and raised her family.

Born April 21, 1930 in Butler County, Iowa, Jean Rowley moved to Marshalltown at an early age where she was educated in the Marshalltown public school system.  She enjoyed playing piano and organ at church as a substitute.   On June 10, 1950 she was united in marriage to James R. Larson in the United Methodist Church of Marshalltown.  She and her husband had four children.  Jean dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker, but she still found time to be an active member of the Marshalltown Jaycettes, Marshalltown Assistance League, Marshalltown Rotary Ann’s, Deaconess Hospital Auxiliary, as well as, delivering “meals on wheels” and other volunteer activities as a resident of Marshalltown, Ames and Clear Lake.  Jean enjoyed working outside in her garden with her flowers.  She was also an avid reader.  Through the years she supported her children and husband in their diverse activities and organizations. 

She is survived by her husband, James R. Larson; two sons and their wives, Jami (Teresa) Larson, of Ames, Iowa, and Todd (Becky) Larson, of Clear Lake; and two daughters, Kimberli Kelly, of Clear Lake, and Lori (Roger) Hamblin, of Ames; sister, Alice Pentz, of Marshalltown; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Keith and Neva Rowley.  

Memorials might be given in Jean R. Larson’s name to the Hospice Of North Iowa Center, The Clear Lake Arts Center or Opportunity Village. 

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge in arrangements.
