Icy conditions send vehicles into I-35 ditch

Icy conditions are being blamed for a driver losing control of his pickup truck on Interstate 35 Sunday, sending the truck and a large recreational vehicle into the ditch.

Clear Lake Fire and Ambulance crews assisted officers from the Iowa State Patrol at the 193.5 mile marker at Clear Lake at 8 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 12.

David Gliadon, 64, of Clear Lake, Minn., was transported to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.  His condition was unavailable.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Gliadon was traveling south on Interstate 35 when his unit was pushed by a strong wind gust as he traveled over an icy bridge at the 193.5 mile marker, causing it to sway.  Gliadon tried to correct his 2002 Ford truck, but the RV jackknifed, sending both the truck and trailer into the west ditch.  The truck and RV came to rest on their sides.

Damage to the vehicles was estimated at $15,000 by the Iowa State Patrol.
