GHV boys drop two games

It was another tough week for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys, as they dropped two more contests, moving their record to 4-6 in the North Iowa Conference and 7-8 overall.

Cardinals go 3-0 at Belmond triangular

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura wrestling team competed in a triangular at Belmond on Tuesday, Jan. 28, and at the North Iowa Conference Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 1.

It was a good night for GHV on Tuesday, as they went 3-0 with wins over Belmond-Klemme, West Fork and Northwood-Kensett at the triangular.

“We wrestled well tonight,” said Coach Steve Smith.  

Cardinals rack up three more wins

Three more huge wins for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls basketball team brought them closer to the goal of being North Iowa Conference champions.

Distribution center may bring 164 jobs

City is optimistic laying groundwork for ‘Fortune 100’ company to locate here

The Clear Lake City Council began to lay the groundwork Monday night for the possible construction of a regional warehouse and distribution center which could create 164 full-time jobs with an average annual salary of $39,000.  The project would provide a $19 million tax base.

Man charged with brandishing knife, looking to fight

A Clear Lake man has been arrested and charged with going armed with a weapon with intent to harm.

On Saturday, Feb.1, Clear Lake police received a call from Mara Mitchell at approximately 4 p.m.  She was at apartment #25 located at 708 S. 8th St., with several other people. Mitchell advised police that a 46-year-old Hispanic male by the 

name of Victor Rivera was outside the apartment with a knife and she and other people at the apartment were fearful of him. She said Rivera had mentioned also having a gun.

Winds whip up blizzard conditions around area

Travel around Clear Lake-- and the Midwest in general, came to a screeching halt Sunday, as strong winds whipped up blizzard conditions.

Collision on icy road blamed for crash killing two teens

A thick layer of glare and black ice was likely the cause of a deadly crash in North Iowa Saturday which killed two teens, including a Garner-Hayfield/Ventura student.

The victims were identified as 19-year-old Tiffany Banta, a graduate of Garner-Hayfield High School, and 15-year-old Chyann Banta, a freshman at GHV. 

CL police accuse couple of bilking disabled man

After six weeks of investigation, Clear Lake Police filed charges against 56-year-old Steven Dirk Epsteen Friday for First Degree Theft, a Class C Felony, and Ongoing Criminal Conduct, a Class B Felony.  Police also filed charges against Epsteen’s accomplice, 52-year-old Victoria Ell
