GHV girls open track season at Wartburg Indoor Meet

Hard to believe that track season is here, but the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls track team has already competed in their first meet.  The team competed at the Wartburg Indoor Meet on Tuesday, March 11.

“Getting on a track was exciting and so beneficial to our team,” said Coach Dyan Childress.  “It gives us a chance to see where we’re at so we know what work needs to be done.”

Fischer receives IHSAA Media Award

Bob Fischer, news director for Three Eagles Radio in Mason City,  recently received the IHSAA Media Award.

Fischer is a familiar voice to audiences in North Central Iowa.  He has been the voice of Clear Lake athletics, as well as other area high schools and college teams.  He has been the news director at Three Eagles Radio since 2000.  

Zenovia M. Kelly

Zenovia M. Kelly, age 89, of New Hampton, Iowa, died Monday, March 3, 2014 at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services were held on Friday, March 7, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton.

Frederick D. Fitch

Frederick “Rick” David Fitch, 4646 N. Shore Dr., Clear Lake, formerly of Des Moines, Iowa, died March 6, 2014 at the Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa, Mason City.

     A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 8, at the First Congregational Church, Clear Lake, with Rev. Brad Thornton officiating.  Inurnment will be at Highland Memory Gardens, Des Moines, at a later date. Military Honors will be presented by the Clear Lake V.F.W.  According to his wishes, following 

Marlyn E. Hall

Marlyn Eugene “Gene” Hall, 74, Clear Lake, formerly of Fertile, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.  

A funeral service for Gene was held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Church of Christ, Fertile, with Pastor Rob Perry and Pastor Dennis Ganz officiating.  Burial was in the Grant Township Cemetery, Fertile.  

The family would like to suggest that those wishing to give a memorial in his memory, may wish to direct memorials to the Church of Christ in Fertile.  

Thomas B. Hartigan

Thomas Bernard Hartigan, age 89, of Clear Lake, formerly of Fort Dodge, Iowa, died March 2, 2014 in Mason City.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Fort Dodge on Saturday, March 15, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Iowa Army National Guard. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge as well as one hour before Mass on Saturday.
