Rev. Roger Katz

 The Rev. Roger L. Katz, 79, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
 A Mass of Christian Burial was held on July 7, 2014 at Epiphany Parish – Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City, with Archbishop Michael O. Jackels as Celebrant. Interment followed in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Roger’s name in care of his family.

Rena Lady

 Rena Arlene Lady, 89, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
 Left to cherish her memory are her children, Virginia “Ginny” (Rory) Willett, of Waterloo, Iowa, and Mark (Paula) Lady, of Loveland, Colo.; and three grandchildren, 

Clarence Wiebenga

Clarence ‘Clancy’ Wiebenga, 72, longtime Thornton, Iowa, resident, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa.  Funeral services were held on Saturday at the First Reformed Church, Meservey, Iowa, with Rev. Rodney Meester presiding.  Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Thornton. 

Lloyd Kennedy

 Lloyd D. Kennedy, 85, 3 E. Gate Court, Clear Lake, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
 A funeral service was held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with Rev. Kirk Wilkie officiating. Interment was at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Military Honors were provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W. Memorials may be given to the Lloyd D. Kennedy Memorial Fund.

Lions pound Mohawks in shut-out

The number one ranked Clear Lake baseball team (3A) notched four more wins before the July 4th holiday. The Lions started the week by notching a win over Mason City, then rattled off three North Central Conference wins.

Cardinals top North Iowa; split games with Belmond-Klemme

 It was a slower week for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team, playing on only two days, due to the July 4th holiday.

 On Wednesday, July 2, the Cardinals had to wrap up one game against Belmond-Klemme before they could start a new one. The first game of the night was a continuation of a game that had been rained out on June 16.

CL softball team ends regular season with a win over Clarion-Goldfield

The Clear Lake girls ended the regular season on a high note Thursday, July 3. They topped Clarion-Goldfield, 10-9, to enter post-season play Tuesday night, July 8, with a 4-22 record. They finished with a North Central Conference record of 3-13.

GHV softball team struggles through week

 The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura softball team struggled this week, dropping five games. The team’s record now stands at 7-18.

Bicycle, Blues & BBQ event rolls into its 10th year

 This weekend (July 11-13) the Bicycle, Blues and BBQ Festival will celebrate its 10th anniversary in Clear Lake. Each year, the festival has grown, and this year lines up to be the best and biggest yet, according to Tim Putnam, festival and race director.
