Former Clear Lake man comes back to Iowa to film movie

Tis the season for giving Sign-up forms distributed for The Giving Tree

For a quarter of a century, the Giving Tree has helped to make the holidays a little brighter for Clear Lake area families.  We are pleased to report that there is already strong interest by families, businesses and other groups interested in choosing ornaments from The Giving Tree and purchasing anonymous gifts for local families.

The 25th annual Giving Tree will be displayed in the Mirror-Reporter office starting Monday, Nov. 24.

Three Cardinals named to North Iowa Conference volleyball teams

  The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura volleyball team had three girls named to North Iowa Conference teams for their volleyball performances this season.

Mackenzie Van Gerpen, a sophomore, was named to the First Team as an outside hitter.  Hannah Lau, a sophomore middle blocker, was named to the Second Team.  Mallory Van Oort, a senior, earned Honorable Mention recognition as libero.

A great season comes to an end

In the playoffs, everyone’s hungry. Every game is a battle of mental toughness and shear will.  On Monday, Nov. 3, the No. 1 Lions (10-0) played the No. 4 Sioux Center Warriors (9-1) for the chance to move on in Class 2A playoff action.

Coach Perry to receive award

Clear Lake Assistant Football Coach, Eric Perry, will receive an award as Assistant Coach of the Year in Class 2A.  The award is given each year by the Iowa Football Coaches Association.  

Coach Perry will receive his award during halftime of the Class 2A Championship Game on Nov. 21 at the UNI-Dome.  

Coach Perry has been an assistant with the Clear Lake football program for 18 years and has been the head coach of the boys golf team.  

CL girl’s BB team to participate in Iowa Pride Challenge Nov. 18

This year the Clear Lake High School Girls Basketball team has been awarded an Iowa Pride Scrimmage that will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 18. The scrimmage is part of the Iowa Pride Challenge, in which schools participate in a local community service project of their choosing.

Lions roar past Midgets in opening round of playoffs

Top ranked Clear Lake (10-0) over-powered Estherville-Lincoln Central for a 42-7 victory in their Class 2A first round game played Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Lions Field.  

Local runners give it their all at State Cross Country Meet

GHV’S Smith claims runner-up honors

Area runners had an impressive showing at the 2A State Cross Country meet held at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course on Saturday, Oct. 31, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys team placed fourth overall, while solo runners, Tanner Storbeck and Gretchen Jones, from Clear Lake also placed well. 

Cardinals fall in opening round of Regional play

It was a disappointing night for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura volleyball team on Monday, Oct. 27, as they fell to Estherville-Lincoln Central in the first round of regional play.

Indians stop Lions in Regional play

The Clear Lake volleyball team had momentum on its side when it began post-season play Monday, Oct. 27.  However a fired-up Forest City team kept the Lions down and advanced in Regional volleyball action, 3-0.   Clear Lake, which had won half of its last six matches, finished the season 7-25.
