    Jeffrey S. Walk, 53, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.
    A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 8, in Kenny Lindstrom Center at Opportunity Village, Clear Lake with Pastor Rich Murray officiating.  A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev.     Sandra L. (Morse Burke) Gjerdahl, 65, of Quartzsite, Az., and formerly Fertile, Iowa died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012 at the Palo Verde Hospital, Blythe, Calif.
    Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the Church of Christ, Fertile, with Pastor Rob Perry and Pastor Dennis Ganz officiating.  Interment will be in Ventura Cemetery, Ventura, Iowa. Family suggests memorials to Sandra L. Gjerdahl Memorial Fund.

    Kevin Wayne Gunsallus, 54, of Clear Lake, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012 at his home.
    Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City, Iowa on Tuesday, Feb. 8, with Pastor Dan Gerrietts and  Pastor Lee Laaveg officiating. Burial was in Osage Cemetery, Osage, Iowa. Family suggests memorials to Kevin Wayne Gunsallus Memorial Fund.

Brenna Shank

    Brenna Lynn Shank, six-week-old daughter of Jeriah and Shawna Shank of Monroe, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 7, at the First Baptist Church in Monroe with burial following at the Colfax Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Monroe First Baptist Church and will be distributed by Jeriah and Shawna at a later date in Brenna’s name. Condolences may be left for the family at

Schmalen, Bieber and Kellogg move on

Three Clear Lake wrestlers have advanced to the District wrestling meet this Saturday at Forest City.  Ryan Schmalen (106), Matt Bieber (120) and Logan Kellogg (182) will all compete for the chance to go to State.  The top two finishers from Saturday’s Sectional meet at Algona qualified for Districts.  Action will begin at noon in Forest City.

CL girls fall short despite great effort

   Although they played some of their best ball of the season, the Clear Lake girls came up short in a pair of conference games last week. The Lions are now 10-8 overall and 10-6 in the league.  They finish out the season at home.  After hosting Webster City Tuesday (Feb. 7), they will take on Humboldt Friday and Charles City Saturday.  Tournament play begins

Lions come out on top of two OT games; move record to 9-8

   Clear Lake’s boys basketball team is hitting its stride heading into the final games of the regular season.  The Lions, who have won six of their last seven outings, came from behind to defeat Hampton-Dumont and St.
