A win and a loss for Ventura girls

   The Ventura girls picked up a non-conference win, but dropped a Cornbelt Conference match-up in basketball action last week.

Bad week for the Vikings as they drop two games

   It was a bad week for the Ventura boys.  The Vikings dropped two games, one to a conference opponent and another to a non-conference team.

    It was an ugly night for the Ventura boys on Tuesday, Jan. 31, when they traveled to West Bend to take on the Wolverines.

City turns down developer’s request

    Saying they were voting “what the people they represent feel,” three City Council members voted against a proposed development agreement for the redevelopment of the former Fredriksen Welding shop located at 209 1st Ave. S.
    Developer Tim Stenberg planned to build five new two-story condominiums on the L-shaped site and was requesting up to $25,000 from the City to defray costs for environmental expenses he would incur as a result of environmental circumstances at the site such as asbestos abatement,  soil remediation and water quality improvements.

Lake representative’s vote on Landfill Board ends waste energy plant proposal

    The Landfill of North Iowa Board turned down an agreement Thursday night proposed by Creative Energy Systems.  The action thwarted plans for a proposed $35 million waste-to-energy plant in Mason City with 50 jobs.

Lions stretch win streak

   The Clear Lake boys pushed their win streak to four games last week, but couldn’t keep up with league leader and number four ranked Iowa Falls-Alden.  A pair of victories put the Lions at 7-8 overall; they are 7-6 in the North Central

  The Ventura boys went 1-1 in conference basketball action last week, with a win over Graettinger-Terrill/Ruthven-Aryshire and a loss to Clay Central-Everly.  The Viking’s conference record stands at 6-5 and their overall record is 6-11.

Two more NCC wins for CL girls

     The Clear Lake girls continue to put pressure on the top teams in the conference.  Last week the Lions edged Bishop Garrigan and posted a win at Clarion-Goldfield to improve to 10-4 in the North Central Conference and 10-6 overall.   They dropped a 47-39 game to Iowa Falls-Alden in a make-up game played Saturday.  They currently stand in third place in the league behind St.

Lady Vikes on a roll

 The Ventura girls picked up two big conference wins in action last week on the basketball court.  The wins moved their conference record to 6-3 and their overall record to 8-9.

Wrestlers beat North Polk; fall to Algona

The Clear Lake wrestling team had two duals Thursday evening.  The Lions opened the night with a close loss to Algona, who was battling for a share of the conference title.  They won their second dual convincingly over North Polk.
