Donald Carolus

    Donald Maynard Carolus, 78, of 511 N. Van Buren, Mason City, Iowa died Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
    Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 19, at the Grace Evangelical Free Church, Mason City, with Pastor Nick Daugherty officiating.  Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.  Family suggests memorials to Donald M. Carolus Memorial Fund.

    Donald was born Sept. 11, 1932 in Britt, Iowa the son of Ralph and Emma (Lassahn) Carolus.  He grew up in the north Iowa area.  He worked for Home Insulation and later started his own business known as Carolus Contracting.  He helped his children and grandchildren in starting their own contracting business.   He married Jean Peasley on Feb. 16, 1980 in Casper, Wyoming.
    He enjoyed traveling, going out west hunting, telling jokes and keeping busy.  He was known for his amazing memory.
    He was a member of Grace Evangelical Free Church, Mason City.
    Donald is survived by his wife, Jean Carolus, Mason City; four children, Jerry Peasley, Mason City, Sheila Callow and her husband, Ron Sr., Clear Lake, Sharon Peaslee and her husband, Mike Burns, Hines, Minn. and Rozanna Theisen and her husband, Michael, Blackduck, Minn.; 20 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; twin brothers, Merlyn Carolus and his wife, Marilyn, Harlingen, Texas and Merwin Carolus and his wife, Ardie, Mason City; a sister, Lorraine Bartleson, Clear Lake; sister-in-law, Shirley Carolus, Buckeye, Iowa and numerous nephews and nieces. 
    He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Clarence and Ralph Carolus and his wife, Betty; and brother-in-law, Ben Bartleson.
    Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, was in charge of arrangements.
