Four Lions open track season at Dickinson Relays

A few members of the Clear Lake boys track team got an early start on the season by participating in the Dickinson Relays held March 19 at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.  

Monson to play golf for University of St. Francis

   Meg Monson, a standout in multiple sports at Clear Lake High School, has signed a letter of intent to play golf for the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill. 
    Monson has led the CLHS girls golf team to the State Meet in each of her high school years. 

Krefft named new YSF Coordinator

Clear Lake resident Billy Krefft has been named the new Clear Lake Youth Sports Foundation Coordinator.

Econofoods will become Payless Foods

    Econofoods in Clear Lake will close at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 1, and re-open at 7 a.m. Monday, April 2, as Payless Foods.
    Econofoods, owned by the Nash Finch Company, has been sold to Randy Goetz, of Tipton, Iowa.  Goetz owns several Nash Finch-affiliated grocery stores in Iowa, including stores in Osage, Tipton, Dyersville, Anamosa, New English and Grundy Center.

Ventura principal resigns

Cassidy will go to work for Cedar Rapids AEA office

    The Ventura School Board has accepted the resignation of Principal Rob Cassidy. 
    Cassidy, who has been with the district four years, will join the Grant Wood Area Education Agency at Cedar Rapids in the area of Special Education leadership in July.

City approves purchase of aerial fire truck

The City of Clear Lake City Council has approved the acquisition for a new 75-foot straight stick Sutphen ladder truck for the Clear Lake Fire Department and the people of the City of Clear Lake.

    The new apparatus, similar to the one pictured with this story, will become the CLFD’s first response vehicle to structure

fires within city limits.

Norma Yuhouse

    Norma Gae Yuhouse, 85, 809 6th Pl. N., Clear Lake, died Thursday, March 15, 2012 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.  A memorial service was held Monday, March 19, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Ed Bard, Chaplin of Hospice of North Iowa, officiating.  Inurnment was at the Clear Lake Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Norma G. Yuhouse Memorial Fund in care of Sandra Wolfe, 1101 S. 8th St., Clear Lake, IA 50428.

Anna Hill

    Anna M. Hill, 86, 20 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, died Saturday, March 17, 2012 at her son’s home in Waukee, Iowa.
    A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 21, at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rhoda Preston officiating. Interment will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery.  Memorials may be given to the Anna M. Hill Memorial Fund.
