A Veteran’s Day Assembly was held at the Clear Lake High School on Friday, Nov. 11.  The V.F.W. Post 4868 (below) lowered the flag and held a gun salute at the flagpool outside 

Cerro Gordo County turns out in large numbers for election day

Cerro Gordo County was busy at the polls Tuesday, Nov., 6 with the 2012 Presidential and General Elections, turning out more than 14,000 voters on Election Day, and another 9,500 voting absentee. 

Following the Iowa and national trends, Cerro Gordo also voted in favor of Barack Obama with 13,204 votes, while giving Mitt Romney 10,084. Nationally, President Obama and Joe Biden received 53,138,271 popular 

Officers respond to assault call

 

Suspect flees and is found at Opportunity Village

 

At approximately 2:50 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, the Clear Lake Police responded to 1010 Village Road in Clear Lake, after receiving a call from a 32-year old female who had been assaulted physically by her boyfriend and then threatened with a knife.

When officers arrived they found the victim to be suffering from non-life threatening injuries. She was not transported to the hospital. A knife was taken as evidence at the scene. 

Christ honored as Citizen of the Year

Don Christ was honored as the 2012 Citizen of the Year by the Clear Lake Rotary Club at a dinner held in his honor Thursday at the Best Western Holiday Lodge. 

Patricia Loers

Patricia Ann Loers 90, of Clear Lake, Iowa, passed away on Monday, Oct. 28, at Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.

Gordon Carlson

 

Gordon Hartley Carlson died Oct. 30, 2012 at St. John’s Mercy Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.  Internment will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis.

  Mr. Carlson was born April 15, 1924 in Chicago, Ill. He served in the Eighth Army Air Corps during World War II as a Flight Engineer on B-24 Bombers earning the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medals among others.

Juanita Monce

 

Juanita Jean Monce, 87, 205 27th Ave. S., Clear Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.  

Opal Pierce

 

Opal Berniece Pierce, 101, passed away peacefully at the IOOF Home, Mason City, Iowa, early Wednesday morning, Oct. 24, 2012.  She was four days away from her 102nd birthday.

A Memorial Service was held Saturday, Nov. 10, at the First Congregational Church, Clear Lake, Iowa, with Rev. Brad Thornton officiating.  According to her wishes her body has been cremated.  Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.  

Lions earn post-season honors

 

Eleven members of the Clear Lake Lions have received First Team All-District honors in Class 3A, District 3 balloting.

Three volleyball players earn spots on All-North Central Conference Teams

 

Two members of the Clear Lake volleyball team have been named to the All-North Central Conference First Team.  Clear Lake Head Coach Scott Swenson made the announcement Thursday at a banquet for the team and their families.
