Maryls Luscombe
Marlys Joanne Luscombe, 69, 8198 Balsam Ave., Klemme, Iowa, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012 at her home. A funeral service was held at the Resthaven Cemetery, West Des Moines, Iowa. According to her wishes, her body has been cremated.
A famous writer once said, “We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.” If that is true, then Marlys made a great life. She was a most giving person.
Marlys was born Sept. 24, 1943 at the Park Hospital in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of William and Emma (Christians) Neuberger. She graduated from Ventura High School. Following high school she went to Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines and practiced nursing for 40 years. She worked in Denver, Colo. as a nurse, then moved back to Des Moines where she worked as a nurse’s supervisor and later in the float pool. She then met Guy Charles Luscombe, the love of her life. They married July 8, 1966 in Des Moines. They were married 39 years up until Guy’s passing in late 2005. She lived in Des Moines until early 2005 when she and Guy moved back to the farm where she grew up and renewed her love for the outdoors.
Marlys loved traveling with Guy and her family, attending her grandchildren’s events, street rod events, gardening and canning, driving a tractor for her son on the farm and her barn cats, cows and horses. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Joy Circle. She was an avid sports fan and especially a Hawkeye fan. She loved the friendly rivalry with her ISU family fans. She was an avid reader for all of her life. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Marlys was a very compassionate loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be dearly missed by all of her loved ones. Above all Marlys believed in family, faith, hard work and community. She always said work before play. Those are words of wisdom that her family will always cherish.
Marlys is survived by three children, Brent Luscombe and his wife, Michelle, Thornton, Iowa, Lana Luscombe, Des Moines, Iowa, and Ryan Luscombe, Toronto, Canada; four grandchildren, Whitney Luscombe, Ames, Iowa, Brandon Luscombe, Samantha Luscombe, Thornton, and Breanna Luscombe, Des Moines, Iowa; seven brothers and sisters, Marie Jurgens, Latimer, Iowa, Bill Neuberger and his wife, Madonna, Klemme, Marna Herman and her husband, Elwyn, Brownsville, Texas, David Neuberger and his wife, Judy, Garner, Iowa, Margaret Parrett, Waterloo, Iowa, Marilyn Cox, Des Moines, and Marcia Evans and her husband, Mike, Almaty, Kazakhstan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
