    Ruby H. Boehnke, 95, of rural Garner, Iowa died Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center - North  Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.
    Funeral services were  held Monday, May 7, at St. John’s Lutheran Church east of Garner, Iowa with Carl Hedberg officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.  Cataldo Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Joanna Johnson

    Joanna Helene Johnson, 79, of Clear Lake, died Friday, May 4, 2012 at Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Funeral services were held Monday, May 7, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating. Interment was in Lincoln Township Cemetery. Thomas Skellenger

    Thomas E. Skellenger, 66, 212 7th Ave N., Clear Lake, died Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa. 
    A memorial sService will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 9, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Wendy Johannesen officiating. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.  Memorials may be given to the Thomas E. Skellenger Family in care of the family.

Vergil Eness

    Vergil D. Eness, 82, 8 Fairway Dr., Clear Lake, died Sunday, April 29, 2012 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.  A memorial service will be held Monday, May 7, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. According to his wishes, his body has been cremated.  Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake Central Gardens, Clear Lake Arts Center, Friends of Clear Lake Library or a charity of your choice.

Lions host Jim Ahrens Meet

The Clear Lake boys track team participated in a pair of co-ed meets last week.  The Lions finished in the middle of the pack at Garner, then hosted the Jim Ahrens meet Thursday.

    Forest City ran away with the team title with 144 points, but the Lions showed well with 71 points to finish fourth. 

CL girls place third at Garner Meet

The Clear Lake girls track team continues to pour it on as the season races to the finish line.  Last week the Lions finished third  at Garner-Hayfield, as well as at the Jim Ahrens invite in Clear Lake.

CL boys earn NCC Championship golf recognition

    The Clear Lake boys golf team captured the North Central Conference championship with a strong performance Monday, May 7, at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course at Fort Dodge.  The Lions (309) were five strokes better than Humboldt in winning the NCC tourney.

Four Ventura players earn Cornbelt conference golf recognition

The Ventura boys and girls golf teams competed in the Cornbelt Conference Golf Tournament on Monday, April 30.  The boy’s team golfed at West Bend, while the girl’s team competed in Graettinger.
    The boy’s team placed sixth in the seven team competition.  Harris-Lake Park and Graettinger-Terrill/Ruthven-Ahryshire tied for the team title with 341 points.  Ventura scored 377 points.

Conference runner-up honors go to CL girls

     Bishop Garrigan squeezed past Clear Lake 357-359 to capture the North Central Conference title Monday at River Road Golf Course in Algona.  Garrigan’s Alexa Capesius was the medalist with a round of 80.  Clear Lake’s Meg Monson was runner-up with an 82.
    The two teams were heads and shoulders above the rest of the conference field.  Third place Humboldt finished 68 strokes behind the Lions with a score of 427. 
    The Lions also received a 90 from Malorie Fischels, 93 from Lexi Lovik and 94 from Taylor Berger.

Lady Vikes keep dropping times

    The Ventura girls track team continues to see improvement as they prepare for District competition on Thursday, May 10, in Lake Mills.
West Hancock Meet
    The Lady Vikes faced some tough competition at the West Hancock Meet on Monday, April 30, but that didn’t faze them much, as they recorded some best times of the season.
