Tough challenge brings out the best in Clear Lake harriers

 

Clear Lake harriers faced their toughest competition of the year at the 20-team Algona Invitational held Monday, Sept. 24.  The challenge brought out the best in the Lions, as several runners posted their best times of the year.

The boys were paced to their eighth place finish by Jake Iverson.  He took nearly a minute off his previous best time to place eighth in 16:38.  

G-H/V/WH cross country teams bring home top honors

 

The boys and girls cross country teams at Garner-Hayfield/Ventura/West Hancock, have been dropping times and winning meets in two outings last week.

The G-H/V/WH cross country teams dominated their own meet held Monday, Sept. 24.  

The boys team won the meet with 47 points, followed by North Iowa, 67; Osage, 70; Central Springs, 89; West Fork, 118; and Belmond-Klemme, 187.

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura football team picked up another solid win on the road over Clarion-Goldfield on Friday, Sept. 28.

“We played real well,” said Coach Scott Van Dusseldorp.  “I am very proud of how our players stepped up.  We rotated a lot of players and they really came through for us.”

In the wake of a visit to North Iowa by a representative of Great Lake Airlines, service by the provider is being adjusted to better meet the needs of business travelers.

“We received some good news from Great Lakes Airlines that effective Nov. 4 they are scheduling the late night departure from Minneapolis at 9:55 p.m., which is what many of the businesses had requested when Monica

Eighth graders take a scientific look at the lake

All summer long, teens see the lake as a fun place.  A spot where they can swim, boat, or simply float.  Now that the school year has begun, the lake has become a scientific laboratory.

The City of Clear Lake has announced that its Fall Large Item Pick-Up event will take place Monday, Oct. 15, through Thursday, Oct. 18.  Residents are encouraged to use this opportunity to dispose of items that cannot be discarded through their weekly garbage service. 

The Large Item Pick-Up map  appears in this edition of the  Mirror-Reporter on page 6.   The map details the dates the City will pick up items in each area of the city, as well as rules for the event.

Reading, writing, and reporting? Fourth graders will tell their stories

 

The Clear Lake Mirror-Reporter is teaming with fourth graders at Clear Creek Elementary to share school news with our readers, while hopefully polishing their writing skills, learning about different types of writing and having fun.

 

Rosemary Meyers

 

Rosemary Kay Meyers, 67, 16 N. 12th St., Clear Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012 at her home.  A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 29,  at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1001 9th Ave S., Clear Lake with Rev.  John  A. Gossman officiating.  Visitation will be Friday from 5 – 7 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.  According to her wishes, her body has been cremated.  

Memorials may be given to the Rosemary Meyers Memorial Fund to be distributed to local charities.
