Cardinals corral the Cowboys in 31-7 win
The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura football team picked up another solid win on the road over Clarion-Goldfield on Friday, Sept. 28.
“We played real well,” said Coach Scott Van Dusseldorp. “I am very proud of how our players stepped up. We rotated a lot of players and they really came through for us.”
The first quarter was all Braden Meints. He scored three points on a 22-yard field goal, followed by a 22-yard fumble return to put the Cards up 9-0. The Cowboys also got on the scoreboard in the first quarter on a 52-yard pass, for a 9-7 first quarter score.
G-H/V really got rolling in the second quarter. They collected two more TDs on a 10-yard pass from Spencer Shaw to Josh Engstler and from Alex Van Gerpen on a 17-yard rush.
At halftime, the Cards led 24-7.
The Cardinals found the endzone one more time in the third quarter when quarterback Shaw scrambled into the endzone on a five-yard carry. The PAT was good for the final, 31-7.
