Cardinal teams both take first place at Forest City; 11 earn conference honors

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura/West Hancock cross country teams hit the week running, competing in a meet in Forest City on Monday, Oct. 8, and in the North Iowa Conference Meet on Thursday, Oct. 11.

 

Forest City Meet

Both the girls team and the boys team had successful outings at Forest City, with both teams capturing first place.  The boys won with a score of 48, while the girls were crowned champions with a score of 35.

Kathy Gallaher

 

Kathy Gallaher, age 60, of Joice, Iowa, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Joice with Pastor Bill Peters officiating.

Kathleen Fern (Hrubetz) Gallaher was born on March 9, 1952 in Mason City to parents Charles and Lucille (Knudtson) Hrubetz of Northwood, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Northwood High School, where she made many close and lifelong friends.

Broken light fuels motorhome fire

At approximately 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, Clear Lake dispatch received a call about a motorhome on fire at 217 Asbury Drive, at the intersection of Asbury and Fletcher near DAR Park.

Decision made to leave aerators on through winter

 

The aerators which keep portions of Clear Lake from freezing will be kept on this year to reduce the possibility of a winter fish kill.

Baker’s Pride Inc., which operates South Street Bakery in Clear Lake’s industrial park, has notified employees of a possible closure, according to a report in The Burlington Hawk Eye.

Calls to Baker’s Pride leadership on the corporate level, as well as the local plant, were not returned by press time Tuesday.

A funeral service for Sharon will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 at the United Methodist 

Dorance Baack

 

Dorance Baack, 79, of Clear Lake, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake with Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Burial was at the Clear Lake Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the Dorance Baack Memorial Fund or to Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.

Jerry Parmley

 

Jerry Parmley, former director of Veterans Affairs, Worth County, passed away Monday, Oct. 8, at his home surrounded by family.  He fought a hard battle and is now at peace.

  Celebration of Life gathering will be held Sunday, Oct. 14, at Izaac Walton clubhouse, located one mile north

of Kensett on Highway 65, (between Northwood and Kensett) from 2 to 4 p.m.   Appetizers and desserts welcome.
