Tough challenge brings out the best in Clear Lake harriers

 

Clear Lake harriers faced their toughest competition of the year at the 20-team Algona Invitational held Monday, Sept. 24.  The challenge brought out the best in the Lions, as several runners posted their best times of the year.

The boys were paced to their eighth place finish by Jake Iverson.  He took nearly a minute off his previous best time to place eighth in 16:38.  

Teammate Antonio DiMarco was competing in his first race in two weeks, due to an injury.  He showed well, taking 13th place in 16:50.  Alex Enabnit and Ryan Faught both ran strong races, dipping below the 18-minute mark for the first time this season.  Enabnit was 45th in 17:50 and Faught was 46th in 17:51.  Also teaming together for good results was MJ Mixdorf, 71st in 18:34, and Alex Blum, 72nd in 18:35.  Also competing in the varsity race was Jacob Welper, 90th in 19:30.

“Even though we didn’t score as well as we would have liked, I feel the boys ran very well and I can only see them getting faster as the season continues,” said Coach Nick DiMarco.

Trudy Peterson ran a strong race for the Clear Lake girls team, placing 19th in 16:21.  The second Lion to cross the finish line was Sierra Greiman, 37th in 17:01.
