School Board approves trip for CL senior art students

 

Clear Lake High School senior art students will have the opportunity to experience art in a variety of forms through a trip to Seattle, Wash. in November.

The Clear Lake School Board gave unanimous approval Monday night to a request by CLHS art instructor Tyler Purdy to offer the trip to his senior independent studio students Nov. 8-12.

Iowa Dept. of Ag reaches settlement with Ventura Locker

 

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship has reached a settlement agreement and final order with Ventura Locker following an investigation into the business’ operations.  As part of the agreement the company’s license will be temporarily suspended from Feb. 1, 2013 to Feb. 28, 2013.

  According to Dustin Vande Hoef, Communications director for the Iowa Department of Agriculture, an employee of the Ventura Locker contacted the department on Nov. 30, 2011 alleging fraudulent practice by the custom exempt locker.

Lions down Go-Hawks in Homecoming victory

 

Clear Lake scored early and often and its defense was smothering on the way to a 42-0 Homecoming victory over Waverly-Shell Rock Friday night.  The win improved the Lions to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in Class 3A District action.  The Go-

Hawks dropped to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the district.

G-H/V/WH teams sweep Clear Lake Meet

 

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura/West Hancock Cross Country team has been setting the courses on fire this past week, placing third at one meet and bringing home championship honors at another.

The Clear Lake Lions hosted a cross country meet Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Baptist Camp in Ventura.  The Lion boys finished second in the 11-team field, while the girls team, which was without a couple of its regular varsity runners, was seventh.

 

CL girls split conference games in recent volleyball action

 

With another steady week of play, the Clear Lake volleyball team has already tripled their match wins (nine) from a year ago and are now 23-16 in set play.  The girls recorded a split with North Central Conference foes last week and went 2-3 at the Forest City Tournament.  

“The girls know that there still is work to be done, but we are showing steady improvement,” said Coach Scott Swenson.  Clear Lake fans have a chance to cheer on the Lions when they host Bishop Garrigan Thursday night.

Cardinals face number three rated Spirit Lake

It was a long night on the road for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura football team, as they fell 42-6 to #3 rated 2A Spirit Lake on Friday, Sept. 14.

“We made too many mistakes to win against a team like them,” said Coach Scott VanDusseldorp.  “We fumbled the ball inside the 15-yard line that they returned for a TD and we threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown.  We also need to do a better job of controlling the clock and finishing drives.”

Highs and lows for G-H/V volleyball team

 

It was a week of highs and lows for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura volleyball team, the Cards blanked Newman, but fell to Forest City, 3-0.

Lillian B. Thiemann, 95, of 405 27th Ave. S., Clear Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa. Memorial services were held on Monday, Sept. 17, 2012 at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church with Rev. Bernie Colorado officiating.  Inurnment was in Ell Twp., Klemme, Iowa.
