Clear Lake still waiting for nesting Ospreys to return

 

Statewide re-population efforts are taking off

“If you build it, they will come.”  

That’s what they said about Iowa’s Field of Dreams.  But seven years after nesting poles were readied to attract ospreys, Clear Lake is still waiting to attract its first nesting pair.  

Stillman Wickert

 

Stillman Francis Wickert, age 81, passed away peacefully with his family by his bedside on March 1, 2013.  

A memorial Mass for Stillman will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1001 9th Ave. S, Clear Lake, with the Reverend John Gossman as celebrant.  A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Should friends desire, memorials may be left to Hospice of North Iowa.

Donald D. Werstein

 

Donald D. Werstein, 76, of Clear Lake, Iowa died Monday, March 4, 2013 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient 

Unit, Mason City, Iowa.  Services are pending at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, Iowa, 641-357-2193

Rosalyn Ames

 

Rosalyn F. Ames, 91, of Fremont, Minn., died Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 at Fremont Area Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 25, 1921 at Mason City, Iowa, and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1939.  Rosalyn graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1943 and taught in Trayer, Iowa, from 1943 to 1946.   She 

Elaine Hall

 

Elaine L. Hall, 99, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the Fertile Church of Christ, Fertile, Iowa, with Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating.  Interment will be in the Lincoln Township Cemetery, rural Clear Lake.  Visitation will be one hour before the service.  Family suggests memorials to the Fertile Church of Christ.

Thelma Duregger

 

Thelma Duregger, 93, of Apple Valley,  405 27th Ave. S., Clear Lake, died Friday, March 1, 2013 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at the Galilean Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with Rev. Scott McCluskey officiating.  Interment will be in Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake.  Visitation will be one hour before the service on Wednesday at the church.  The family suggests memorials to the Thelma Duregger 

memorial fund.

Haugen signs with NIACC

 

Clear Lake High School senior Brianna Haugen has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for Coach Chris Brandt at North Iowa Area Community College in the fall.  Coach Brandt said she is excited to have “a wicked left-hander” on her roster in the fall.  

Clear Lake players add skill to Mohawk Hockey Club

 

The Mohawk Hockey Club had a strong finish to the season, but couldn’t muster a win at the Midwest High School Hockey League Tournament.  The team, which features eight players on its roster from Clear Lake, dropped its quarterfinal round contest against 

Clear Lake lands five on All-North Central Conference lists

 

Clear Lake’s starting five were represented on the recently released All-North Central Conference lists.

Juniors Logan Anderson and Trudy Peterson were both First Team All-NCC selections.  Senior Megan Loux was a Second Team All-NCC choice, while senior Kristen Hewett and junior Bailey Kibsgaard were named to the All-NCC Third Team.

Girls compete at All-Iowa Dance

 

Alexis Atkinson, Maddy Hartnett and Maddie Hess represented the Clear Lake High School Dance Team on March 2-3 at the All-Iowa Dance.  The All-Iowa Honor Dance Team made its 31st appearance at the State Girl’s Basketball Tournament.  One
