Lloyd Kennedy

 Lloyd D. Kennedy, 85, 3 E. Gate Court, Clear Lake, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
 A funeral service was held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with Rev. Kirk Wilkie officiating. Interment was at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Military Honors were provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W. Memorials may be given to the Lloyd D. Kennedy Memorial Fund.

     Lloyd was born May 3, 1929 in Mason City, the son of Merle L. and Lydia (Hope) Kennedy. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1947. Following high school, he went to work for Severson Excavating. Lloyd married Sally Sarber Jan. 17, 1954 at the Congregational Church, Belmond, Iowa. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in April 1957. He returned to continue his work with Severson Excavating and later Beck Excavating, Clear Lake. He went to work for the City of Clear Lake Water Dept. as the plant supervisor and was promoted to Public Works director until his retirement.
 Lloyd loved teasing his nieces and nephews, wood carving figures and fishing. He was a great history buff. He would never miss his “Coffee Socials” in the AM and PM. He enjoyed his antique cars and drove the Clear Lake Mayor in the 4th of July Parade in his yellow 1953 Cadillac Convertible for many years. Lloyd was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake and the Clear Lake V.F.W.
 Lloyd is survived by his wife, Sally Kennedy, Clear Lake; his sister, Lucille Anderson, Jim Falls, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.
Lloyd was preceded by his parents; three infant sons, Randy Jay, Jeffrey Rae, and Gary Lee; one brother, Leonard “Dude” Kennedy; and three sisters, Loretta Neal, Luella Marshall and Lorene Haddy.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
