Cardinals land six on All-District teams

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura football team had six players named to All-District teams for the 2014 season.

Named to the First Team was Conner Shaw, Gabe Umbarger, Logan Miller and Harley Forry.  Connor Smith and Corey Hauptmann earned Honorable Mention recognition.

Eleven CL players land on First Team

Eleven members of the Clear Lake High School football team received First Team honors in Class 2A District 2 balloting by coaches conducted last week.

The Lions, who finished the 2014 season 10-1, were represented by five players on the First Team Offense and five on the First Team defense.  The Lions also had a player honored on the Utility list.

Diercks signs with ISU

Clear Lake High School’s Chandler Diercks has signed a letter of intent to attend Iowa State University in the fall and compete on the Cyclones’ track team.  The two-time state long jump champion and Drake Relays champion said he will compete in the long jump and may try the triple jump event.

Leonard E. Washburn

Leonard Everett Washburn, 90, of Clear Lake, died Saturday Nov. 15, 2014, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa, surrounded by his loving family.

Robert A. Hansen

Robert A. Hansen, age 75, of Minneapolis, Minn., died on Nov. 6, 2014.

A memorial service will be held at Grace House II, 4447 3rd Ave. So., Minneapolis, on Sunday, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m.    

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Arnot; sister, Pat; and brother, Harold. 

He is survived by his niece, Debbie Gundel and her husband, Bob; and many other nieces, nephews and friends. 

Dale N. Clapper

Dale N. Clapper, 73, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.  Memorial services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, at the First Covenant Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Steve Johnson officiating.
