CL, MC school sharing programs under review

Clear Lake and Mason City School Boards met in a joint work session Monday night, with a focus on the future of sharing agreements between the districts.  

Although the districts share a nutrition director, grounds and transportation supervisor, facilities supervisor, IT director and a French/talented and gifted teacher, the majority of discussion by the Boards seemed to center around their shared superintendent, Anita Micich.

New library director expected to be named soon

The announcement of a new library director to succeed Jean Casey at the Clear Lake Public Library is expected soon.

Monday night, Clear Lake City Administrator Scott Flory said the search committee has concluded the interview process and it is anticipated that an appointment will be recommended by the committee, 

submitted for approval of the Board, and announced publicly at the next Library Board of Trustees meeting.

The Library Trustees are scheduled to meet at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9.

More charges filed against CL man following crime spree

A Clear Lake man has been charged with several crimes reported in the Clear Lake area over the past few months.

Four Lions earn INA All-State recognition

Four members of Clear Lake’s outstanding 2014 football team were named to All-State football teams released by the Iowa Newspaper Association Tuesday, Nov. 25. 

Mason City tops Clear Lake girls in season opener

Clear Lake jumped out to a 14-7 first quarter lead, but Mason City found its game and outscored the Lions 17-5 in the second quarter on their way to a 57-40 victory in the first game of the season for both teams.

 

Lions face RRMR in Hall of Pride Scrimmage

The Lions tuned up for the 2014 season with a scrimmage against Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock Tuesday, Nov. 18.  Proceeds from the event went to local charities (see related story in this edition).

 

Sally L. Bell

Sally L. Bell, 62, of Clear Lake, died from a bicycle accident on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.

A gathering of friends was held on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the Lampost Theater at the Hub, Clear Lake. A time of sharing and celebrating of her life was held with the Rev. Dr. Pat Hall officiating. Memorials in Sally’s name may be made to either Patriots for Pets or the Humane Society of North Iowa. 

Rosemary Staudt

Rosemary Staudt, 79, of Rockwell, Iowa, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City, surrounded by her family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 305 Elm Street E., Rockwell, with the Rev. Rodney Allers, officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Dougherty, Iowa.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 9-10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic School, Rockwell.
