Lake school leaders oppose late school start

State: No more automatic waivers
 Clear Lake School leaders plan to voice their opposition to an announcement by the director of the Iowa Department of Education, informing school districts it will now be tougher to get a waiver to start classes earlier in the fall.

Doreen A. Fischer

Doreen Ann (Hunt) Fischer, 78, of Meservey, Iowa, passed away Dec. 15, 2014 at the Muse Norris Inpatient Unit, Hospice of North Iowa, in Mason City, Iowa.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014, at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City.

Doreen Ann Smy was born on Aug. 24, 1936, in Woodbridge, England.  She married Edward Norman Hunt on April 12, 1957.  Edward passed away Nov. 26, 1996. She married Robert Lyle Fischer on Sep. 15, 2001. 

Doris E. Parks

Doris E. Hughes Parks, 96, Mankato, Minn., formerly of Clear Lake, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2014, at the Laurel Peak Rehabilitation Center, Mankato.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, Dec. 19, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 301 S. Main St., Ventura, with Rev. Scott Kozisek officiating.  Visitation with family and friends will begin at 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. preceding the service.  Inurnment will be at the Ventura Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be given to the charity of your choice in her honor.

Lions top IF-A; fall to Clarion-Goldfield-Dows

Clear Lake spilt a pair of North Central Conference wrestling duals at home Thursday. The Lions wrestled Iowa Falls-Alden and defending state champion Clarion-Goldfield-Dows.

A buzzer beater and two more wins for CL boys

After dropping their season-opener, the Clear Lake boys have rattled off three straight wins.  In the past week the Lions 

won a buzzer-beater over Charles City, then dominated St. Ed’s in a conference match-up.  

Defense key to Lion victory

Clear Lake handled fifth ranked (2A) St. Ed’s, 66-42, Friday night, improving to 1-1 in the North Central Conference and 2-2 overall.

Coach Bart Smith credited his teams’ defense with setting up with the win.  

Two wins and a loss for GHV boys

With wins over Belmond-Klemme and North Union and a loss to Forest City, the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys moved their records to 3-2 in the North Iowa Conference and 3-2 overall.

Forest City 67, GHV 53

The GHV boys had a tough night against Forest City when the Cardinals hosted the Indians on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
