Beverly Greiman

Beverly J. Greiman, of Clear Lake, died Monday, April 20, 2015 at the Concord Care Center, Garner, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 24, 2015 at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, with Rev. Bernie Colorado officiating.  Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. Family suggests memorials to Clear Lake United Methodist Church.

Emma Teeter Cecil Teeter

Emma Elizabeth Teeter, 95, died on May 3, 2010 and Cecil Glenn Teeter, 96, died on Dec. 16, 2014.  A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, in La Porte City, Iowa.  Family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.  Inurnment will be held in the West View Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the La Porte City American Legion U.S.S. San Diego Post #207.

School Board continues personnel discussion

The Clear Lake School Board continued to make tough personnel decisions at its regular Monday night meeting.  The Board approved hiring one additional teacher for the next school year, but passed on several other hiring recommendations by staff.  

On a 3-1 vote, the board approved hiring an additional first-grade teacher to help with the large amount of students at that grade level.  Chad Kuhlers voted against the hiring.  Board member Chyrl Bergvig was absent from the meeting.

North Shore Drive paving begins

Residents along North Shore Drive, from Buddy Holly Place to 1st Avenue North, along with all those who enjoy a drive around the lake, were pleased to see that paving began on the street reconstruction project area Tuesday morning, April 28.  The underground storm sewer, water main, and sanitary sewer improvements were constructed during the 2014

Clear Lake teen invited to share 4-H insights in the Oval Office

Spencer Orr credits his involvement with 4-H as an opportunity to gain leadership, citizenship, and communication skills.  All of those skills were taken to a new level this month when the Clear Lake teen was invited to the White House Oval Office to meet President Barack Obama.

School Board settles on 2015-16 calendar

Classes begin Aug. 24

The Clear Lake School Board has given its approval to a 2015-16 calendar which starts classes on Monday, Aug. 24, for high school students.  

The Board had been in limbo for more than a month on its start date because legislators had been debating state guidelines which now prohibit schools starting earlier than the week of Sept. 1.  

History Maker

Chandler Diercks has become Clear Lake High School’s first athlete to win two Drake Relays titles.  The Clear Lake senior jumped 22’8.5” Friday to capture his second straight title.  His winning margin was more than a half-foot in damp conditions in Des Moines.

“There was definitely a lot of pressure to repeat. I had to keep my head up and do what I do and perform,” said Diercks.  “It’s a blessing and an honor.”

Diercks has committed to take his considerable talents to Iowa State University in the fall. 

GHV girls top Clear Lake in soccer action

Garner-Hayfield/Ventura edged the Clear Lake girls soccer team, 1-0, in a game played Thursday, April 23.  The win was the first in 11 outings for the Cardinals against the Lions.

CL tennis team tops Webster City; falls to Boone

The Clear Lake girls tennis team is now 5-2 after splitting a pair of matches last week.  The Lions topped Webster City, 8-1, on Tuesday, April 21, then dropped their first-ever meeting with Boone, 7-2, on Thursday, April 23.
