A win and a loss for CL girls soccer team

The Clear Lake girls soccer team had an even week, splitting games with Mason City and Humboldt.  

Mason City 6, CL 0

The Lions started the week on Tuesday, April 14, with a 6-0 loss to Mason City.  The Mohawks put a lot of pressure on the young Lions team from the start and held a 2-0 advantage at halftime.  

GHV boys track posting some good times

The Cardinals placed second at the Ulmstead Relays held on Tuesday, April 14, in Eagle Grove.  Humboldt won the eight-team meet with 112 points.  GHV recorded 98 points and Webster City was third with 89.

Logan Dalbeck had a stellar night for the Cardinals, picking up two first place finishes in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:10.57 and in the 1600 meter run in 4:51.13.

JJ Loschen also claimed a championship in the long jump with a leap of 18’7”.

GHV girls on the run at three meets

Competing in three track meets in one week has its advantages and disadvantages, admitted Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls track coach Dyan Childress.  She said the experience is good, but by the end of the week the girls are super tired.

Clarion Meet

Despite not scoring a lot of team points, the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls track team found cause to hold their heads high and find victories where they could at the Clarion Meet held on Tuesday, April 14.

GHV girls golf team faces ups and downs

It was a week of ups and downs for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls golf team.

On Monday, April 13, the team placed third in a four-team field at the Mason City Country Club.  Mason City won the meet with a score of 195.  Clear Lake was second with 212, GHV carded a 221 and Newman Catholic wasn’t far behind with a 226.

CL boys soccer falls to W-SR power house

The Clear Lake boys soccer team played got a true test of their ability last week, as the Lions tallied another win against North Iowa competition before taking on Class 2A power Waverly-Shell Rock.

The Lions recorded another shut-out Tuesday, April 14, at Latimer.  Clear Lake topped CAL, 5-0.

In the ninth minute of the contest Ernie Miszewski finished an attack on goal for the first score of the contest.     

Three big wins for Clear Lake boys tennis team

The Clear Lake boys tennis team picked up three solid victories last week.  The Lions, now 4-1, topped Webster City 7-2 on Monday, April 13, then went on to shut out Hampton-Dumont and Iowa Falls/Alden on Thursday and Friday.

Karin S. Hartnett

Karin Sue Hartnett, 51, of 707 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, died Thursday, April 16, 2015 at her home.

Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. John Gossman officiating.  Visitation will be one hour before the service on Wednesday at the church.  Family suggests memorials go to the Humane 

Society of North Iowa.

Karin was born in Lincoln, Neb., the daughter of Robert and Gisela (Jansen) Oliphant.

Kenneth Lincicum

Kenneth E. Lincicum, 92, formerly of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at the Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City, Iowa.

    A memorial service was held on Friday, April 10, 2015 at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Bernie Colorado officiating.  Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with military honors provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W.

Family suggests memorials to Kenneth Lincicum Memorial Fund.

Diana Carriveau

Diana Carriveau, 59, of Kennebec, S.D., passed away April 10, 2015 in Laramie, Wy. 

Diana was born Dec. 6, 1955, to John and Carolyn (Goschke) Murphy in Pontiac, Mich. 

Diana is survived by her fiancé, Paul A. Peterson of Kennebec; mother, Carolyn F. Krause; daughter, Cynthia Christensen and husband, Kurt, and their two children, Rebeccah and Michael, all of Clear Lake; and son, Jonathon Goins and wife, Nicole, and their, daughter Rayne Goins, of Mason City, Iowa. 

Beverly Greiman

Beverly Greiman, 87, of Clear Lake, died Monday, April 20, 2015, at the Concord Care Center, Garner, Iowa.  

Services are pending at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.
